 Uga Ghiri

Front-row Ella views

Pull the curtains, step outside, and catch glimpses of the Nine Arch Bridge as mist lifts off the hills.

A newly built resort in 2026, Uga Ghiri introduces a sharper, more contemporary place to stay in Ella. Elevated above the valley, this intimate collection of just 15 sleek villas hosts scenic surroundings close to the Nine Arch Bridge – one of Sri Lanka’s most photographed landmarks. At the centre of it all is the main house, home to a curved infinity pool, spa, and relaxed all-day dining space where the view does most of the talking. Spreading out from the house are the villas, dotted across the hillside rather than stacked together, so the mood is calm and spacious. If you’re keen to delve into Ella’s scenery but prefer clean design, luxury-level comfort, and the ease of an all-inclusive stay, this is exactly where you want to land.

Why we love Uga Ghiri

  • You get a fantastic view of the Nine Arch Bridge, the iconic stone railway viaduct where Sri Lanka’s blue trains glide across the valley

  • It offers a rare chance to experience Ella from a swish, high-end base and the service which Uga is known for

  • Every villa is the same, and they all face the valley, so nobody draws the short straw on the view

  • It’s all-inclusive, which means once you arrive, you can simply settle in and enjoy the resort’s fabulous food and drink

Facilities

  • Restaurants & bars
  • Board
  • Spas & wellness
  • Sustainability
  • Families

The restaurant and bar overlook the valley in the main house. Breakfasts tend to be leisurely with Sri Lankan classics alongside lighter international dishes. Lunch and dinner highlight local ingredients in a menu that feels fresh and straightforward. In the evening, the mood shifts slightly, with cocktails appearing, lights softening, and the occasional train crossing the Nine Arche Bridge in the distance.

What's Included

All Inclusive • Breakfast, lunch and dinner at the restaurant • Selected alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks • Shared tea experience tour • Minibar (replenished once daily)

The spa offers a menu of treatments* designed to soothe guests returning from Ella’s hills, tea trails, and viewpoints. Therapies draw on traditional Balinese techniques, and the atmosphere is calm and unhurried. Elsewhere, the half-moon infinity pool, complete with a pool bar, looks out across the valley and tends to become the place where afternoons stretch into evenings without much effort. For quieter moments, there’s also a small library and drawing room with a fireplace, useful if the famous Ella mist decides to roll in.

Sustainability is built into the broader approach of the Uga Resorts group. Across its properties, this includes energy-efficient operations, responsible water use, reduced plastics, and ethical sourcing policies that shape everything from procurement to day-to-day operations.

Each villa sleeps up to three guests, so larger families will need to spread across multiple villas. For parents travelling with one child, it works well, with space to relax and a dramatic natural setting that makes exploring Ella’s waterfalls, tea plantations, and railway walks feel like part of the adventure.
