Mykonos Theoxenia

This chic design hotel brings a touch of 1960s glamour to Mykonos Town’s waterfront.

It’s not just the setting – right next to the Mykonos windmills overlooking the sea – that makes this glamorous retreat such a landmark. The vision of a Greek modernist architect, the low-rise 1960s buildings of rustic stone and whitewashed walls are protected monuments with a timeless feel. Tranquillity reigns in the recently revamped, airy interiors of what was the island’s first five-star hotel, where natural materials, soft textures and natural tones create a harmonious atmosphere. When you’re not stretched out by the pool gazing out to sea, you can savour the feeling of peace in the spa or find a tucked-away reading corner in the mature gardens.

Why we love Mykonos Theoxenia

  • You can see the celebrated Mykonos windmills from almost every part of the herb-scented grounds, which are planted with native species

  • With its low-rise modernist buildings, which were cutting-edge when they were built in the 1960s, it’s a worthy member of Design Hotels

  • The treatments in the spa are a fabulous blend of ancient and modern, where natural Greek ingredients meet hi-tech innovations

  • It feels remote and peaceful, but it’s only a short walk to the bustling heart of the Old Town with its boutiques, bars and restaurants

The three tasting menus at Apanemi, one of which is vegan, are a revelation and worth the splurge.

What's included

Breakfast at the main restaurant

The So Spa is a cool, calm retreat, where the treatments combine the healing powers of natural ingredients and the latest technological developments. Opt for a signature crocus facial for skin that glows, banish stress with a spiced mud bath or use binaural beats to align your chakras.

There is a small but well-equipped fitness room. Al fresco tai chi, yoga and meditation sessions are also available.

A large swimming pool surrounded by loungers, Balinese daybeds and native pines is the stylish hub of the hotel. You can also arrange private scuba-diving excursions and snorkelling lessons, as well as boat trips to various destinations.

As with other members of Louis Hotels, there is a focus on locally sourced and seasonal produce in the kitchen, the use of natural cleaning products rather than chemical ones and recycling (in-house or through external specialists) as much as possible.

Minimum stay: 5 nights 01 Jul-26 Aug; 3 nights 01 May-30 Jun & 27 Aug-07 Oct.
