Recommended highlights

LIMA Explore the UNESCO-listed heart of Peru’s capital and its Centro Historico to discover pretty plazas, striking cathedrals, numerous churches and excellent museums.

SACRED VALLEY This fertile area between Cuzco and Machu Picchu is home to small Andean towns, colourful local markets and the fascinating ruins of Ollantaytambo. See the huge agricultural terraces of Moray which were built in natural holes in a circular form and resemble a Roman amphitheatre.

MACHU PICCHU Sweeping Andean landscapes provide a spectacular backdrop for this mysterious citadel that was ‘lost’ to the world until its ‘rediscovery’ by archaeologist Hiram Bingham III in 1911.

LAKE TITICACA Explore beautiful Lake Titicaca first from Puno on the Peruvian side, before crossing the border to the Bolivian city of Copacabana. From here, take a hydrofoil cruise across the lake to Huatajata and visit the Sun and Moon Islands which are home to over 150 Inca settlements. See the Sun Virgins Temple Iñak Uyu on Moon Island and drink from the Sacred Fountain on Sun Island.

LA PAZ Bolivia’s capital is famously home to the fascinating Witches’ Market and the unique Moon Valley, a remarkable collection of sandstone formations that have been sculpted over thousands of years by the dry winds of southern La Paz. The Teleférico cable car – the highest, longest urban cable car system in the world – is a great way to see the city while avoiding the traffic. Discover the remarkable ruins of one of the oldest civilisations in the Americas in the city of Tiwankaku which is just two hours from the city.

UYUNI This small town borders the incredible otherworldly landscapes of the Salar de Uyuni – the world’s largest salt flat. It also offers you the unique opportunity to stay in a hotel made of salt. Isla Pescado – a fish-shaped island that sits in the centre of the salt pan – provides a striking contrast against the brilliant white landscape.
