Recommended highlights

LIMA Peru’s capital and largest city offers an intriguing mix of pre-Columbian ruins, colonial  architecture and modern districts. We suggest returning to the capital for one night before your journey home and a city tour is a great way to discover Lima’s fascinating history.

AMAZON Experience a taste of the Peruvian Amazon and discover its incredible biodiversity with a stay in a jungle lodge. A number of excursions are included so you can explore the jungle in the day and night with boat rides and nature walks. Spot wildlife and walk through the treetops on one of South America’s largest canopy walkways.

SACRED VALLEY Discover the tranquillity and beauty of the Sacred Valley of Urubamba – a 26-mile-long valley carved by a winding river that was once the heart of the Inca Empire. At nearly 610 metres lower than Cuzco, time here allows gentle acclimatisation to the high altitudes of the Andes. Popular local attractions include the ancient Maras salt mines, which were built on the slope of a mountain in Pre-Incan times.

MACHU PICCHU The highlight of any visit to Peru is undoubtedly Machu Picchu, also known as the ‘Lost City of the Incas’. The scenic journey by train is an experience in itself and the first glimpse of this iconic site is unforgettable. We recommend an overnight stay to allow you time the following morning for a second excursion.

CUZCO The ancient capital of the Incas offers an intriguing combination of colonial architecture and Inca ruins. We recommend taking a tour of the city to discover the beautiful colonial quarter, which is home to the Plaza de Armas and the Cathedral of Santo Domingo, before exploring Inca sites including the Temple of the Sun at Koricancha, the remarkable fortress of Sacsayhuamán and the underground cave and temple of Kenko.

PUNO This small city lies on the banks of Lake Titicaca, the world’s highest navigable lake. Don’t miss a visit to the famous floating Uros Islands which are made from totora reeds and expand to support growing Uros communities.
