A very lovely historic property. Our rooms were considered Jr suites. We were on the 5th floor with a very large deck overlooking the lake. The only concern for us was the bedroom was on the second floor. We have some mobility issues so traveling up stairs to go to bed was an issue. The restaurant at the hotel was Michelin quality, Great meal, even better service.
Restful and calming
As we were fairly late in booking accommodation the selection of rooms was limited for the 4 days of our stay. The room, as expected, was on the small side. There was little room for clothes, etc. and the number of hangers inadequate. We did find it odd that the aircon could not be adjusted manually in the room so you had to ring down to reception for this to be switched on/off or changed. The positives for the hotel were the beautiful grounds with plenty of options of seating/sunloungers etc. The pool and gym were both of a reasonable size and in proportion to the hotel. We were lucky enough to witness two wedding parties during our stay where the bride/grooms arrived by boat across the water for their respective parties. This did mean that the hotel was much busier but obviously a very happy atmosphere. Breakfasts were buffet style and the choices more than adequate, although you could order additional hot food separately. The breakfast room was lovely, spacious and airy and the staff courteous and efficient. The long areas were comfortably, with beautiful high ceilings with a view over the terrace and lake to be enjoyed. Overall the staff were helpful and friendly and we would stay here again, especially with the easy walking distance into town with access to shopping, bars and restaurants. Would opt for a higher spec room rather than the basic one we stayed in this time.
Back to the 30’s
If you want a private place, on the lake with no road in front of you, no tourist buses and all these annoying people, then this is choice number one. The Grimaldi choose this hotel in 2015 for the Casiraghi prince wedding for the same reasons. It is very calm, puts you in a « belle epoque » atmosphere that most hotels have lost now. You enter the lobby and feel like if you just jump out of the orient express and have a meeting with agatha christie here. It is really charming, although our room 414 was one of the smalest of the hotel it had everything you need. the location is the best on this lake, with a gorgious view on the borreome islands from your room. We also want to thank filippo, as under his management, the service was perfect both at the Beola restaurant team and the breakfast. The hotel team was as expect in this kind of hotel very helpful, and special thanks to Sara at the front desk for her advices. We could definitevely stay again .
Highly disappointed with room amenities
While the lake shore, terrace, bar and restaurant were wonderful, we were very disappointed with the rooms, which are way below the standard of a four stars. Showers were not working properly and took over 24 hours to be properly fixed, which is unacceptable for the money charged for the room. Rooms were small with no proper cupboards and poorly appointed bathrooms. Staff was rather unresponsive to requests to address these serious shortcomings. The stay at the hotel was a gift for my parents' anniversary, so the fact they could not even take a proper shower for 24 hours was quite upsetting.
A fine "old world" hotel.
The Grand Hotel majestic is well located just a short walk down to the pretty lakeside town of Pallanza and stands high above its own gardens which run down to Maggiorre Lake. An impressive entrance leads into a fine atrium and beyond to an attractive sitting area overlooking the gardens and the Lake. We had a large room with balcony overlooking the Lake with a large marble covered bathroom. Breakfast is taken in a new Breakfast Room with fully glazed walls overlooking the Lake. Dinner is served on the open loggia besides the garden ----- excellent food and excellent service. Grand Hotel Majestic is a high quality hotel --- part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World -----but has no Concierge; no "turn down" service; and its very finely equipped gym and well designed internal swimming pool cannot be used until 10am. Very odd indeed. Notwithstanding, this is an hotel of quality, with helpful and informative staff, singularly attractive facilities and intersting and well presented food.
