Incredibly chic, amazing service and F&B, and the most gracious staf
We are Amanjunkies and frequent many of the best luxury hotels in the world, and we absolutely loved Mystique. As an Ambassador guest, I booked our mid October stay in the week in order to maximize our chances for an upgrade—and we fortunately were upgraded to a wonderful Spiritual Suite (#2) towards the top of the property. The living room and separate bedroom was quite spacious and decorated in the traditional white and Santorini chic minimalism for which the island is well known. There was even an extra workout room, though it had no windows. The bathroom off the bedroom smaller but well appointed. Both the living room and bedroom had doors and windows out to the large terrace with private spa and onto the surreal views of the caldera. The bathroom also has a window view. The air con worked beautifully. Service was spectacular. The only miss was that housekeeping frequently came to for nightly turndown an hour or so before we would leave for dinner—even as the concierge knew our dinner schedule. Otherwise, everyone was impeccably friendly, helpful, and always wanting to please and make sure we were enjoying our stay, both at the hotel and on Santorini in general. The pride for their island was abundant, The reception/concierge team was special. Even before arrival, they guides us for the best excursions and restaurant choices. They even helped save us money on a sunset private catamaran cruise on our final day. They and the restaurant team recommended amazing wineries to visit that didn’t disappoint. We even discovered a few new varietals that we loved that only grow here. The F&B was wonderful. We didn’t lack for anything—except perhaps a well made Manhattan! The one bartender did a good job trying to make it to my liking, but it was another who got it right. But that was about the only F&B miss we had for our entire stay. The views are amazing. As they are from so many places in Oia. The nice part of Mystique is that it is a bit lower down the side of the caldera, meaning more steps but a lot more privacy from the throngs or crowds above. Still, it was only a 10 min walk up the stairs and over the center of town. And yes, there are steps—as almost all properties have that cling to the side of the caldera in Oia. We didn’t find them onerous at all, but then we are fit and adventurous and realize we aren’t in the USA. If you’re too uncomfortable for stairs, then perhaps another property might suit you better—but to me those type of complaints are laughably pathetic. The complaints about no handrails clearly identify our fellow American tourists who’ve not been out of the county too often and don’t have much of a clue. Mystique is a special place, and so is Santorini. We’d not expected to love either so much—and yet we most certainly did. We cant wait to return.
Mistique Hotel is a must experence!
Had our first trip in Greece - we heard many good things about Santorini but never expect that there is an amazing hotel that we were able to stayed at. The hotel is one of the best accommodations we had - it is clean, good ambiance, great hospitality and most of all the views from your room is so beautiful especially when you wake up early in the morning when the sea is so calm before the sun rises.
My boyfriend and I spent about a week in Santorini a few weeks ago and our most memorable experience was staying at Mystique. Not only is the property located on such an amazing part of the island where you experience unbeatable views every sunrise and sunset- the hospitality at Mystique was incredible. Everyone was very friendly and made sure we were totally satisfied and enjoyed our stay. They were very tentative and never left us without a few bottles of water for us in our room. Everyday, there was a new Greek dessert waiting in our room- great surprise! The hotel is located about a 5 minute walk to the main part of Oia so it's on a quieter side, but not far from all the action. Overall, I would definitely recommend this property and it really exceeded our expectations.
Views for days
This is a lovely Marriott property. Here are a few things I will point out. If you rent a car, as we did, please be aware there is NO signage from the road and the road is one-way so if you pass it you have about a 15-minute loop to get back to it. From the road you will see Alexander’s Boutique Hotel and Perivolas Market. It would be wise to put one of those in the GPS as you will be more likely to see it as a first-time arrival. This is the only thing I believe the concierge should do a better job of explaining to guests prior to their arrival. It should be included in the welcome email. There are tons of stairs, as others have mentioned in their review, but EVERYTHING in Santorini is tons of stairs, that’s part of visiting these villages. THe staff is happy to carry your bags and meet you at the road to help you find the property. We are titanium medallion members and were upgraded to a hot tub suite. That was lovely and we took advantage of the hot tub (perfect temperature BTW). There were ample choices for breakfast (included as our titanium pick). We had dinner at the hotel one evening and it was lovely. The staff is always eager to help and the general manager, Evangelos Dimos, greeted us personally upon arrival and was always at the property to answer any questions. The views were stunning, and the location is Oia is great. I highly recommend this property!
Awesome except for the steps
I would have given this hotel a 5 star but the steps from the street down to the lobby and below are horrible. I understand everything is built on a caldera but this was unbelievable. We were dreading our stay here after our initial check-in but it ended up being great due to the fact that we never had to walk that way again because of where our suite was located. We were able to use a back way that took us out to the street and there was also another pool right by us as well as a restaurant for dinner and another one for breakfasts and snacks. If it wasn't for that, I would never have made it. This would never fly in the US. There are no handrails to hold on to and the walls are very short....you could easily lose your balance in some spots and go right over. Other than that, the staff could not have been nicer and more accommodating, and the restaurants and food were great. All the rooms are like a cave and very stark and white - walls, floors, coverlet, etc. Also you really don't have a great view from inside your room as there are no large windows. You have to go out on your balcony or, as in our case, open the door so we could see out when we sat on the sofa. If you did that, the view was beautiful. One other thing I might add is that it is a Marriott Property and we are reward members yet they would not give us our rewards because they said we booked through a travel company and not directly through Marriott. Our agent has NEVER and I mean NEVER heard of this before and she is going to take it up with Marriott. They would give it to us for food but not our room.
