Shangri-La Rasa Ria, Kota Kinabalu

Tropical jungle meets the sea

Backed by rainforest and overlooking a white sand bay, Shangri-La Rasa Ria is both escapist and adventurous.

In a 64-acre forest reserve and with a private beach, Shangri-La Rasa Ria is a dreamland of activity. Family friendly – with paddock riding, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding – it also caters to couples, with a golf course, spa and twilight river cruises. Dining is classic modern grill and Malaysian street food with a side of ice-cream at the pool and sunsets at Sampan Bar.

Why we love Shangri-La Rasa Ria, Kota Kinabalu

  • Night walks with night vision goggles searching for nocturnal sambar deer and civet cats.

  • Serene stand-up paddleboard yoga at the Ocean Wing pool.

  • The Borneo sunrise hike to the summit of Timpak Pogimpaan for tangerine skies over Mount Kinabalu.

  • The Junior Resident Naturalist program is a unique treat that teaches kids jungle survival skills.

Wherever you do decide to eat, our favourite foodie experiences include the Borneo Sunrise where you start the day with the sun rising over UNESCO-listed Mount Kinabalu and sunset cocktails at the laid-back Sampan Bar which overlooks the beach.
