Beautiful friendly lodge .. just wonderful place to stay...
We had a wonderful 3 night stay at Muchenje. It really is a friendly and well run lodge - you feel like one of the family. The view is spectacular - and with even all the activities you sometimes have to make time to simply sit and look at it ... We loved the different safaris that were offered e.g. night and walking safari. (The walking safari is particularly recommended - you don't see any more but it is great to actually walk through the landscape and notice flora/ fauna and dung!.) Muchenje is located at the quiet western end of Chobe and away from the large camps. They are also keen to get up earlier than other lodges to be first into the park to see the game. The food was fantastic - and we enjoyed the general atmosphere. The hosts work very hard - always available to chat and we enjoyed evening conversations around the campfire. The guides were all excellent. Overall a great stay and I highly recommended this camp.
Incredible views from a well-run lodge.
Hosts Kiddy and Toff preside over a well-run, comfortable lodge. Their team are great and I felt welcome and looked after from beginning to end. The views from the main camp and the rooms is breathtaking. Our guide, Ali, was extremely knowledgeable and very amenable to varying the activities to fit his audience. An early morning walking safari was a highlight as was following a herd of elephants on their evening wander to the river. The food is really good and there is plenty of it. And the bar is a great place to talk to fellow travellers in the evening. Star spotting by the fire pit is a special memory of my time at Muchenje.
A Place To Come Back To
Our mother daughter safari adventure began at Muchenje and throughout our time in Africa, we kept remembering this place and the people who call it home. From our first warm welcome to sharing hugs before leaving, our two night initiation into safari travel was perfect. Kiddy and Tuff are capable and helpful managers, but really, you felt like friends just enjoying their company in their home. Our safari guide, Ali, shared an encyclopedia of knowledge, stories, and his family and professional life with us as we explored the Chobe area during a morning and afternoon open air land rover ride, one night ride, and a long and leisurely afternoon boat ride on the Chobe River. This is not to be missed as the perspective of the land from the water is both beautiful and relaxing. The common lounge areas of the lodge were cozy, well-styled, and open air and family style dining was friendly and engaging. Each evening, one of the chefs introduced themselves and the meal to come…how charming! The food was delicious, filling, and always included a local flavor or ingredient and the conversations with other guests and staff made the experience even more rewarding. Afterward, the evening fire looked so inviting but the early mornings and lingering travel lag had us in our comfortable thatched roof cottage right after dinner where we slept peacefully despite the nearby elephants! Although we never lingered on our private deck to take advantage of the gorgeous view, we thoroughly enjoyed the cottage interior with every amenity…from a large rainfall shower to the soft linens on the bed. It was an unexpected pleasure to have quality perfumed soaps and hair products, a blow dryer, in room coffee/tea service, screened windows, bed netting and insect spray, a safe, and complete quiet and privacy. And, did I mention that in our short time we saw giraffe, elephant, zebra, impala, scrub hare, lion, hippo, crocodile, impala, kudu, sable antelope, cape buffalo, baboon, and birds everywhere? We will return someday and we recommend this Muchenje experience to all. (Traveled May 2022)
Amazing return visit
First came to this lodge 15 years ago and it was everything and more how I remembered. We had 3 amazing days there and were so lucky to have an upgrade to the family room and had a bathroom each. Just fabulous. Much of lodge was the same or even better. The staff were great and so was the food, Our guide Ali was so knowledgeable and we got on so well which often makes the experience even better. Would love to return again,
Terrific safari guide, outstanding game drives, and wonderful accommodations!
We just returned from three nights and days at this wonderful facility in the area of Chobe National Park in Botswana. The lodge itself and the individual rooms were very comfortable, the meals very tasty, and the Muchenje staff friendly and most helpful. In particular, our safari guide "K.B." was just outstanding! His knowledge of the area's animals and birds was nothing short of phenomenal, and we saw plentiful wildlife-- including hippos, crocodiles, giraffe and three of the "Big Five"-- on our various game drives. Highly recommend!
