Take a guided walk on the Anse Major Trail for stunning views, bird-spotting and a well-earned beach break. Set in the north of Mahé, this trail is one of the most popular in the Seychelles, leading through woodland and along a coastal walkway to a sandy cove. Much of the trail is set about 60 metres above the ocean on huge granite boulders, so you get 360-degree views of the turquoise sea, with Silhouette and North Islands in the distance.
It takes about an hour and a half to get to the beach so we set off before 9am to avoid the heat. Along the way, we’ll chat about the history of the Seychelles and spot plenty of birds including blue pigeons, bulbuls and sunbirds. If we’re lucky, we might also see some geckos, native spiders or snakes. I’ll point out the different flora, including endemic species like wild coffee and vanilla, takamaka and cinnamon trees.
Guests love relaxing on the beach, which has sand like brown sugar, before we head back. It’s a small cove so the water is very calm and clear, perfect for swimming and snorkelling. You’ll see all kinds of fish here, I’ve even had guests who’ve spotted turtles. I think exploring on foot is the best way to appreciate the beauty of the Seychelles, you really connect with nature.
