Enjoy a round of golf at Mugie Conservancy’s nine-hole golf course. It’s the only one of its kind this far north in Kenya and although the climate is so hot and dry in Laikipia, it has beautifully-manicured greens surrounded by trees. The owners are passionate golfers and have expanded the course from a modest three holes to a nine-hole, 18-tee course complete with friendly caddies and a bar at the end where you can sit back with a drink.

The golf course is home to a few impalas and other plains game but it’s protected by an electric fence to keep most animals out. You don’t just have to come for a round of golf either, you can go for a walk or jog around the three-kilometre running track. There’s excellent bird life there too and it’s just a great place to come if you’ve been cooped up in your car on game drives and are craving some exercise.

Jonathan and Angela Scott are award-winning wildlife photographers, TV presenters, authors and conservationists. The couple live in Nairobi and have a permanent base at Governors’ Camp in the Maasai Mara, where they’ve been documenting the lives of the area’s lions, leopards and cheetahs for over 40 years. Jonathan and Angela famously filmed the BBC’s Big Cat Diaries in the Maasai Mara for 12 years and have continued this legacy with Big Cat Tales on Animal Planet.
