Our Samburu hosts will roll your four-poster bed onto the front deck so you can fall asleep beneath a sky-full of stars….
Sleep under the African night sky at Loisaba Star Beds, the only experience of its kind in Kenya. You’ll sleep in a four-poster bed on a wooden platform, with views over the valley and a waterhole teeming with wildlife. Design-wise, it’s an eclectic bush-home feel, with a sitting area and bathroom with solar shower, all shaded by a Makuti palm-frond roof. At night, our Samburu hosts will roll your bed onto the front deck so you can lie back beneath a sky-full of stars.
Each of our handcrafted wooden beds have mosquito nets to keep you comfortable and can be easily rolled back under cover if it rains. The night skies in Laikipia are crystal clear, particularly in our private Loisaba Conservancy. It’s near pitch-black so the sky is filled with stars; you can see the silvery smear of the Milky Way and constellations like Orion’s Belt, the Southern Cross and Scorpio. If you lie still long enough you can watch satellites falling through the sky. You’ll drift off to the sound of animal calls and wake to birds singing at sunrise.
In the morning, staff will come and lift up the mosquito net so you get uninterrupted views of the plains and you can either enjoy a bush breakfast or head to our main dining hall. Guests particularly like the fact that our staff come from the local community – many are Samburu and Laikipia Maasai Warriors who welcome and host you. If you’re coming to Star Beds from our sister property, Loisaba Tented Camp, you can also opt to make the 15-minute journey on horseback or even by camel – an experience guests love.
Your journey will start with one of our UK team – someone like Becky, who's travelled extensively in Kenya. They’ll shape your ideas into the trip of a lifetime. But they won't do it alone. They'll draw on the expertise of our contacts on the ground, connecting you to the people who'll make your holiday one you'll always remember - the rangers who'll ensure you'll spot the best wildlife in the Mara, the village chiefs who'll give you a genuine insight into local life and the camp managers who can recommend the very best spot for your sundowner.
