Stayed last weekend at KoleKole for an annual strategy meet ,.. left refreshed and rejuvenated . The Team is alert , well trained and sensitive with minimal response time . Rooms are neat , well maintained and functional . I slept well. Energetic entertainment team , well mannered who ensured nights continued until early mornings .... Well done Team Baobab , you just won me over .... will be back .
Unlike our last visit a few months ago where the airport shuttle (big Pollmans bus) dropped us at the KOLE KOLE check-in , this time we were dropped at the Baobab main reception which was very crowded. The bus driver refused to take us to KOLE KOLE saying that he always dropped guests at Baobab main reception, which certainly wasn’t true based on our previous experience with him in July . We then alighted, walked to KOLE KOLE and found the reception staff idle and ready to help. This initial check-in experience made us feel like we’d walked into a government office and not a luxury holiday center. We then found that we’d been allocated rooms that were on the opposite side of where we had requested at the time of booking, despite having taken time to explain our preferences and got assurances that we’d get the rooms. So we then had only one of three rooms available for check in as the reservations team arranged for other rooms. The other experiences were positive with the restaurant staff being friendly and professional. The pancake person (Angela, I think) did a great job with the pancakes. The mixed tea during breakfast is however, horrible, and is even greyish in color. This needs attention. Experience at the Gym was also good. The swimming pool, however, needs a thorough clean up to prevent cloudiness of the water. Also housekeeper staff forgot to place drinking water in two of the rooms one day, and also missed out on towel replenishment. The overall experience was okay but the loose ends mentioned above should be tied up to make the experience excellent. We will return again.
Health hazard, dismal customer relations
THE GOOD - There's entertainment every night, lots of activities for kids (It can get a bit noisy/busy if you're looking for a quiet romantic getaway, entirely depends on what you're looking for) - The junior staff are friendly THE BAD "All inclusive" marketing is a hoax. - Gym is an extra cost - There is no iron in the room you have to pay for laundry to get any piece of item ironed. - The drinks are watered down, no 2 cocktails are made the same, drinks are served in plastic cups. Also the included drinks are horrible drinks, there are better local offerings in the market they could use. Rather not pay all inclusive and pay for quality drinks, these are actually well priced at the hotel. A double of Bombay gin is 3$ THE UGLY - HEALTH HAZARD - I got fairly ill on my 3rd-5th day of my stay there for a couple of reasons. 1. While having desert, I noticed 2 small pieces of glass in my plate. I alerted the waiter who apologised and promised to escalate it and he took my room number. No contact was made for more than a day. 2. Lots of flies around the buffet and restaurant area. We had a meeting with the manager who had to organize for it to be fumigated. Staff would sometimes not bother covering the food?? Flies would land on the bread etc..was horrible. HORRENDOUS GUEST RELATIONS For the issues above, I went to the guest relations manager who was very apologetic and took on the feedback well. She informed me the operational manager would meet with me. The operational manager met with me but was dismissive and arrogant on giving him feedback about the food but also about the so called all inclusive plan. He said they could not change things as this is how things have been done all along. They did not offer gym as all inclusive because " people who actually dont want to gym spend hours there occupying the machines", the lack of irons in the room was because "mattresses were previously burned by guests". I would expect a business to receive feedback and discuss it dismissing it as impossible in the name of tradition. Secondly, for the glass in my food, he said they had wavered the cost of a massage we had and that that should settle the matter. This was not commensurate to the risk I was exposed to. The medication I received from the hotel was still charged for. After speaking to my agent the operations manager offered a complimentary night, which was well received. We had booked the exec rooms for 4 nights and 2 nights for the sea facing rooms. On the day of the move, we packed our bags for the staff to move them and we went for swimming. On returning the bags were still there, and the staff who came with the keys to my siblings' room reported that our room did not need to move. Later that night at 10pm they called the room asking us to move - at 10pm! My daughter was already asleep. Because of this, they retracted their complimentary stay. My advice: stay away, if anything goes wrong you're on your own. I am writing to the ministries and regulatory bodies involved to take this up further.
Impressive, all-inclusive, luxury, 5-star beach-front resort, not perfect but a top choice
Its prominent ON the water position -smack in the middle between the two stretches of white sand that line the Diani beach and breathtaking beach and ocean views- may make the Baobab the ultimate choice in the area for a relaxing vacation in this small tropical paradise. It is also placed a bit higher than beach level on a small promontory, which gives it the advantage of a higher viewpoint over the other similar local hotels. The hotel is enormous, offering many accommodation solutions at various prices, sprawling over several acres along the beach itself, with 3 pools, spa, several restaurants, shops, a small word in itself isolated from the rest of the "ugly" surroundings that may spoil the guests vacation. Ground floor rooms offer little privacy and noise is an issue if you are a light sleeper. The food is overall excellent, buffet-style, a great variety is offered, many different cuisines with many different choices. However, many meat choices (beef, ribs, goat) we tried were quite chewey, tasty but impossible to eat and wait lines can get really long at certain popular preparation stations (pasta, grills), which is annoying (and not too covid proper) Staff is excellent, smiley, polite and accommodating to all guests' needs. Things do happen a bit slowly, Kenyan-style, we asked for an extra pillow one day, it came the next! We are on vacation, who cares? Velvet monkeys on the ground are cute but a nuisance: unfortunately guests feed them and they have become aggressive to seek human food, not pleasant, not hotel's fault. Grounds and gardens are manicured to perfection, there is always a baobab that will lend its shade, where you can drag your sun-lounger under and enjoy in peace you drink and the great beach views. Looking forward to coming back to the Baobab!
Wonderful Experience, Exceptional Staff
I love traveling globally, and Baobab Resort is the only place I've ever booked a second time. Our Kole Kole room was spacious, fresh, and meticulously cleaned daily. Silent at night. Food is tasty and appeases many diets and preferences. Festive Season in December is great; I love the special Sunday Advent afternoon teas. The pools are clean and I love the quiet pools at Maridadi. Staff of all departments works exceptionally hard, and I hope they are compensated accordingly. Highly recommend to anyone from whatever background. COVID-19 protocols felt very safe. Thank you!
