An ok trip
Baobab is a nice hotel, but just with a few too many letdowns. The rooms were very nice and so were the pools. They played extremely loud music, so you couldn't even hear the waves or anything.... it wasn't nice relaxing music, but horrible pop. There are lots of baboons and when we were having dinner outside, a baboon attacked the kids when they were eating even when i had asked the staff many times to try and shoo it away. The service wasn't great either. Personally i would defiantly not be rushing back
The location is suberb and the hotel is highly recommendable. The staff were very friendly and helpful; from reception, to bar and restaurant waiters to housekeeping, pool attendants and gardeners. A special thank you to Robinson who provided us with a list of basic Swahili phrases and always had a smile on his face and some nice words to say dispite being busy. The same kindness applies to Zukura who served our drinks for breakfast and lunch and young James from the pool bar. The food was the best we ever tasted in an all-inclusive resort and so much effort was put into making the dining room look so welcomimg each evening. We will glady book another stay.
I really enjoyed my stay at Baobab resort. Very everything is excellent'; from the hotels( Maridadi, Kolekole and Baobab), rooms, pools and the environment. The attendants are kind and welcoming. I will visit this beach whenever i visit the coast. Those looking for a place for their holiday BAOBAB Beach Resort and Spa is the place to be.
Really not 5 star at all.
I wanted to write a very honest review, which may be a little controversial to others. Having travelled to many places and hotels, this hotel is no means a 5 star, a 4 at best. The staff here are exceptional in making you feel welcome all bar a few who don't even smile, say Jambo, good morning or anything...which is fine. However there is one staff member who is the barman at the pool side at the far end of the hotel. I've noticed how he greets and smiles at all the caucasian guest but anyone of colour he doesn't even crack a smile or really tries to be polite. Since I arrived 2 days ago I've had a number of issues, first on arrival my room wasn't ready, I let them know I didn't mind waiting as I was early from the 2pm check in at 1.30. Anyway when I got to my room, the floor was still dirty and I couldn't even see in the mirror due to it still being quite dirty and there was only 1 towel. I called reception to let them know and they said someone can come and sort it, I was so tired I just said the housekeeping can do it tomorrow. The next morning I found a huge cockroach in the shower, half dead so covered it with a glass. The window in the bathroom is so dirty it really made me want to vomit whenever I went in there. The bed was comfy and as to was the seating area. The beach is lovely, pure white sand, blue sea. However, as soon as you step on the beach you are hounded by men trying to sell you something. It's like bees to honey, if you come out of the sea they are chasing you. It really put me off going to the beach, one of the guys actually was doing a snorkelling trip that I wanted to do so booked it with him, however that night I ate some fish and that night and morning was throwing up. I went to the reception where I was going to meet him at 07.15 and told him I cant make the trip and if I could have my $ 60 deposit back. He said he has booked everything and will talk to the boss. Given that there were 4 other people going and they do this trip a lot so would have a boat and the fish lunch I know a lot of people go to it. Anyway, on going to his office on the beach that evening ( where lots of intimidating men are standing around you) I was told he isn't back yet and to come back tomorrow, the men were conversing amongst themselves about not giving it back and how its policy, I argued that it doesn't say that on my receipt. He showed me another piece of paper.... So I've been there a total of 4 times and he is never there all of a sudden. However I've just been again and the same guy that I've been speaking to took out his wallet and gave me back $20 not the $ 60 but $20. So all this time he could've just given it to me! That afternoon whilst sitting by the pool, a palm tree branch fell on me. Was very heavy, the pool attendant didn't come over for some time to see if everything was ok, everyone around the pool gasped but again no one really came to assist. When he did come he checked my leg and it was turning red and that evening I was limping as it was sore. I went to the reception to ask to speak to the duty manager and told him all the things that I wanted to complain about. He just looked at me like, what do you want me to do! He then said I should have come and reported it when it happened, I questioned why the pool attendant didnt report it! He said I should go and have dinner and come back and see him so he can make inquiry's. On returning he said he can confirm what happened at the pool and the pool attendant did come over but there was no cuts or blood! Err a very heavy palm tree branch fell on me! If I was an American I know they would have sued the hotel! He said do i need medical assistance, hospital, doctor, I let him know that its red and sore and 'I' haf put ice on it. (No help from the pool attendant or other staff) He said with the room he can change it, however I have 2days left and I didnt want to pack everything up again and then have to change rooms and it possibly being worse than what I have. He made no mention to the fact I had paid money and couldn't make my snorkelling trip due to the food poisoning and I had lost $60. No apology for the branch, the room, food poisoning... Again staff are all lovely and the beach is too if you can handle getting hassled everytime you go there. The hotel has 4 swimming pools, 2 restaurants which actually do provide a variety of food each night. In the Karibu restaurant, Zamini is a lovely lovely man, he really looked after me being an alone female. There is also a lovely lady in the other restaurant, a trainee called Schola, she was so helpful and attentive. These are the kind of staff you should be keeping, the ones that smile and dont discriminate. I'm sorry to say I would never want to stay here again and I really cant make a recommendation for this hotel either.
The hotel is great and I would recommend it to everyone. The hotel looks beautifull and has a great location at the beach. There are 3 pools and also 3 bars and restaurants. There is therefore a lot of variety. The staff is very friendly, the food is great! The rooms are fine and clean. There are a lot of activities which you can join, like volleyball , waterpolo, etc, but it is not overwhelming. The sport facilities are good. Overall this hotel gives you a good feeling, and is amazing in all its details. We were with 6 adults.
