The Serengeti bush dinner

Enjoy a private meal in the middle of the Serengeti, surrounded by the national park’s famous landscape and wildlife…

By Philip Chami
Safari guide for Sense of Africa, Alfred&'s partner in Tanzania

Enjoy a private dinner in the middle of the Serengeti, surrounded by the national park’s famous landscape and wildlife. After a day of exploring on a game drive, we’ll usually have cold drinks while watching the sunset across the endless plains before heading on to the dinner spot. Staff from the lodge will have set up tables in the middle of the bush, usually in a hilltop location where you can watch herds of animals wander the plains.

It’s like a moving restaurant, the chef is there, all the food is freshly cooked and the tables are laid with cloths and cutlery. You’ll usually be served a three or four course meal; a salad followed by soup course, a main dish with meat and vegetables – perhaps some fish from Lake Victoria – and a delicious dessert. As you eat, you can chat about the day’s wildlife experiences and admire the views, it’s a magical safari experience.

Plan your holiday withAlfred&

Your journey will start with one of our UK team – someone like Gemma, who's travelled extensively in Tanzania. They’ll shape your ideas into the trip of a lifetime. But they won't do it on their own. They'll draw on the expertise of our contacts on the ground, connecting you to the people who'll make your holiday one you'll always remember - the rangers who'll ensure you'll spot the best wildlife, the village chiefs who'll give you a genuine insight into local life and the camp managers who can recommend the very best spot to enjoy your sundowner.
