Things to do in Tanzania

The scenic SkySafari flight to Tarangire

There’s a large swamp where animals graze and you’ll often spot elephants and buffalos here – your safari really does start from the air…

By Captain Stephen L. Haybukhai
SkySafari Pilot

Soar above Tarangire National Park in a luxurious 8-seater light aircraft. This is the first flight of our 10-day SkySafari trip in Tanzania, which takes you from Arusha to the elephant-filled plains of Tarangire and UNESCO-listed Ngorongoro Crater, ending in the world-famous  Serengeti. We’ll depart in the afternoon after you’ve had lunch at Arusha Coffee Lodge for the 20-25-minute flight to Tarangire National Park.

It’s a very scenic journey that offers views of rolling hills and forested areas, then lush green waterlogged terrain as you swoop in to land at Kuro Airstrip. On the final approach into Tarangire, there’s a large swamp area where animals like to graze and you’ll often spot elephants and buffalos here – your safari really does start from the air.

The SkySafari is very unique, it provides a more intimate safari experience on an executive aircraft, our Cessna Caravan C-208B. This is an extremely versatile, safe and dependable plane; it’s the machine of choice for all bush operations worldwide and seats nine adults with their luggage comfortably.

You’ll be treated like a VIP, with fast-track service through the airport and champagne. Guests love the personalised service, which starts from the minute they arrive in Tanzania, be it flying in our executive aircraft or staying at our luxury camps. I feel incredibly lucky to enjoy aerial views of Tanzania’s amazing wildlife and landscape every day – there’s always something amazing to see.

Plan your holiday withAlfred&

Your journey will start with one of our UK team – someone like Gemma, who's travelled extensively in Tanzania. They’ll shape your ideas into the trip of a lifetime. But they won't do it on their own. They'll draw on the expertise of our contacts on the ground, connecting you to the people who'll make your holiday one you'll always remember - the rangers who'll ensure you'll spot the best wildlife, the village chiefs who'll give you a genuine insight into local life and the camp managers who can recommend the very best spot to enjoy your sundowner.
