Enjoy your own villa by the Indian Ocean at The Residence Zanzibar. We’re the only resort on the island that has private pools in all of our 66 villas, which are scattered around tropical gardens leading down to the beach. Our style is inspired by Zanzibar’s cultural heritage, featuring a mix of African, Omani and European design combined with five-star luxury. You can spend long afternoons lounging on your pool deck, take a cycle through our bird-filled gardens and then cool off in the beachfront infinity pool.
We’re set on an isolated, mile-long stretch of beach among 32 hectares of exotic gardens. Think coconut palms and white sand with endless views of the Indian Ocean – it’s paradise. Located in southwest Zanzibar, The Residence is just 20 minutes from the village of Kizimkazi, where many of our staff come from. We like to provide people on the island with opportunities for training and jobs, as well as offer funding to help with medical care and sanitation in the village; this is an important part of our ethos.
Our spa is a guest highlight and has six treatment pavilions that have tranquil gardens with outdoor showers and bathtubs. Enjoy a massage with oils made from Zanzibar’s famous plants and spices. Guests also love the food on offer at The Residence’s two restaurants. We have a daily themed menu that features European, Middle Eastern and Asian cuisine, with plenty of fresh seafood. Just ask our staff and they can set up private dining experiences on the beach, jetty or even arrange a BBQ sandbank trip too.
Guests love having their own home-away-from-home, our secluded beach and the personalised service we deliver at The Residence. For instance, every day we offer complimentary experiences for guests, from yoga to kayaking and a host of board games to play in the evenings. We’re constantly looking at ways to incorporate the best sustainability practices, including eliminating plastic bottles and developing our own on-site farm The Earth Basket, which is where we source most of our produce.
