We’ve dubbed Nanyukie the veranda safari because of the amount of wildlife you can see while relaxing outside your tent…
Lemala Nanyukie Lodge is set among the Serengeti’s vast plains and offers incredible big cat sightings from our luxury safari tents. We’re located in a former conservation area in the east of the park that’s dotted with kopjes, which are a favourite nursery area for our resident lion pride. For the past three months, we’ve had lions in camp practically every day and as they’ve moved out, a leopard has come in. You can also regularly spot cheetahs in the area – there’s always lots of big cat action at Nanyukie.
The views from camp look down over the kopjes to a gully and the Nangara Nanyukie River beyond, which we’re named after. This draws plenty of animals and as well as lions, you’ll often spot buffalo, elephants, giraffes, baboons and dik diks – it makes for great entertainment when you’re sat on your veranda. We’ve actually dubbed Nanyukie the veranda safari because of the amount of game you can see while you’re just relaxing outside of your tent, you’re really immersed in the wild.
Our 15 canvas tents have a modern twist, with a whale-backed rather than triangular shape and blue, grey and white décor instead of traditional safari browns and leather. They’ve been designed to withstand the elements and are set on stilts with wooden floors. Each one has sliding glass doors that open onto a veranda with its own plunge pool – I love seeing guests’ reactions when they arrive, they’re just blown away by the design. Our two communal areas include a restaurant, lounge and bar with a deck for our infinity pool. It’s a stunning, open area with a firepit to gather around for evening drinks.
Most of your time at Nanyukie will be spent out on game drives, exploring the world-famous Serengeti. You might head out with a guide for a sunrise safari, come back for lunch, then head out again at 4pm. It’s also fun to do a whole-day drive with picnic lunch, especially during the Great Migration when the herds are on the move. For a different perspective of the Serengeti, we can also arrange sunrise balloon safaris and walking tours where you’ll discover flora, animal tracks and see game on foot. For the ultimate safari experience, I’d definitely recommend booking one of our special sundowner and bush dinners.
Your journey will start with one of our UK team – someone like Gemma, who's travelled extensively in Tanzania. They’ll shape your ideas into the trip of a lifetime. But they won't do it on their own. They'll draw on the expertise of our contacts on the ground, connecting you to the people who'll make your holiday one you'll always remember - the rangers who'll ensure you'll spot the best wildlife, the village chiefs who'll give you a genuine insight into local life and the camp managers who can recommend the very best spot to enjoy your sundowner.
