We’re located right in the path of the famous Great Migration and get to watch huge herds of wildebeest crossing the Grumeti River…
Enjoy a front-row seat to the best wildlife show on earth at Elewana Serengeti Migration Camp. We’re located in the path of the famous Great Migration, which sees a million wildebeest, as well as tens of thousands of zebra and Thomson’s gazelle, head to and from the Maasai Mara during their yearly migration cycle. Situated just 500 metres from the Grumeti River, we get to watch the herds pass through camp and cross the crocodile-infested waters.
Serengeti Migration Camp is unfenced, so you feel immersed in the rhythms of the wild. You’re surrounded by endless plains and from the veranda of your tent, you can hear birds tweeting and watch buffalos, elephants and sometimes lions go about their daily business. The views are spectacular, especially at sunset – you can see the hills of Ndasiata in the distance across the kopjes.
Our canvas tents really blend into the Serengeti and have their own solar-powered, en-suite bathrooms. It’s a five-star experience in the middle of nowhere, we even have a pool with Grumeti River views and a spa where you can enjoy massages. There’s also a main mess tent, which has a split-level lounge and restaurant with its own viewing platform where you can dine on high-end Tanzanian and international cuisine.
Spend your days out on game drives in 4×4 Landcruisers, accompanied by our knowledgeable guides, many of whom come from the Serengeti and know the park inside out. Explore savannahs, woodlands and kopjes while following the migration, stopping to watch dramatic river crossings. You’re likely to spot the Big Five, as well as all kinds of big cats, hyenas, giraffes and antelope species. For full-day drives, we’ll send you out with a champagne picnic hamper for lunch in the bush.
To get even closer to nature, you can take a walking safari with a local naturalist who’ll teach you all about the Serengeti’s animals, nature and Maasai culture. The day ends with cocktails on our sunset deck, complete with a bonfire and the sound of hippos honking in the Grumeti. Guests tell us that they love just being out in the Serengeti, surrounded by animals and the ancient, wild landscape.
Your journey will start with one of our UK team – someone like Gemma, who's travelled extensively in Tanzania. They’ll shape your ideas into the trip of a lifetime. But they won't do it on their own. They'll draw on the expertise of our contacts on the ground, connecting you to the people who'll make your holiday one you'll always remember - the rangers who'll ensure you'll spot the best wildlife, the village chiefs who'll give you a genuine insight into local life and the camp managers who can recommend the very best spot to enjoy your sundowner.
