Arusha Coffee Lodge: a plantation getaway

Elewana Arusha Coffee Lodge has been designed around the original landowner’s home, which was built in the early 1900s…

By Hazel Gumpo
General Manager, Elewana Arusha Coffee Lodge

Stay at one of Tanzania’s largest coffee plantations in the serene foothills of Mount Meru. Arusha Coffee Lodge has been designed around the original landowner’s home, which was built in the early 1900s. It’s a perfect place to relax before or after a safari, with 30 traditional plantation cottages dotted around the coffee fields, decorated with colours and textures that reflect the natural surroundings. Think warm wooden floors and beams, exposed brick, roaring fireplaces and a private veranda with coffee estate views.

In our main plantation house, you’ll find an à la carte restaurant, café-bistro and a lounge. All have log fires and serve coffee straight from our fields. Don’t miss our bean-to-cup estate tour, where you’ll learn all about our history, the coffee production process and get to taste our signature brew. One of the highlights at Arusha Coffee Lodge is Shanga, a social enterprise which employs Tanzanians with disabilities who produce beautiful craft products from recycled materials. Tour the workshop to learn about Shanga’s work, try bead making and pick up some handmade gifts.

Guests enjoy spending time in our many acres, swimming in our pool, relaxing in the garden terrace and having a massage in Peaberries Spa. There are vervet monkeys that play in the gardens, entertaining guests all day. We’re happy to organise special experiences for guests, from plantation picnics and star-lit meals to Maasai wedding blessings under the Big Tree for honeymooners. If you want to venture further afield though, you can visit Arusha National Park and tour the city, perhaps hike Mount Meru or even take a scenic flight over Mount Kilimanjaro.

Your journey will start with one of our UK team – someone like Gemma, who's travelled extensively in Tanzania. They’ll shape your ideas into the trip of a lifetime. But they won't do it on their own. They'll draw on the expertise of our contacts on the ground, connecting you to the people who'll make your holiday one you'll always remember - the rangers who'll ensure you'll spot the best wildlife, the village chiefs who'll give you a genuine insight into local life and the camp managers who can recommend the very best spot to enjoy your sundowner.
