Safari from your window
Stayed here in February 2021. Such an amazing and peaceful place to stay. Can you imagine to wake up with elephants walking very close and view of Kilimanjaro from your window or swimming pool zone. Like wildlife coming to your window😍 That's just amazing. Can't find words to share our feelings. Room is really comfortable and has everything you need. And the food is perfect. Also would like to thank JT (Julius Tact) Safaris (Julius Nzumbi), who advised us to stay in this hotel during our trip, which his company organized from the beginning till the end. They booked the best room for us and looked after we had the perfect journey. Our guide was Samuel, who organized the best game drives. We were surprised how he can see animals even if they really far away. He always knew when need to make a stop for photoshoot and tell us so many interesting things about animals. We definitely would like to come back to the same place with same company ♥️
What a perfect paradise!
We stopped just for lunch (I ate the best fried fish in my life), but we also had time to visit a little the lodge and we loved it! The rooms are spacious and very clean, with a number of facilities. And you can choose where you want to wake up: in front of Mount Kilimanjaro or in front of the elephants' lake. Special thanks to the staff for receiving our visit and special thanks to those over 30 Maasai who welcomed us at Ol Tukai. Asante Sana!
Wonderful lodge, especially if you love elephants.
The last time I stayed at this lodge was March, 2014. This was my third stay. It remains my favorite when visiting Amboseli National Park. It is a larger lodge so not quite the intimate feel of the tented camps. While I was there, a large Governor’s conference was also on the grounds. Many friendly attendees. I stayed in the Elephant Wing again which overlooks the savanna where the elephants can come quite close. The other side has mountain views of Mount Kilimanjaro if the mountain is awake. The rooms are nice with plenty of space. The beds are extremely comfortable. At night, they pull mosquito nets around the bed. There are plenty of charging stations around the room as well as more than adequate lighting. The shower in the bathroom has a ‘window’ to the world but don’t worry, only the monkeys can see you. They have a switch to turn on the hot water during your stay and there certainly was plenty of it. Do be mindful of making sure your door is shut and locked while out, or you will have visitors to your room (cheeky monkeys or baboons). Free, fast wi-fi is also available in the room even though their guest information says it is not. Meals are served buffet style which I like because you can pick the amount of food you wish. There are many items to choose from. My favorites were the salads and desserts. They never disappoint. I did try a box breakfast on one of my days. I chose it because of limited time at the park. There was plenty of food but I have to admit, cold bacon or sausage isn’t my favorite. The fresh fruit, juice, hard boiled eggs were very good. My thanks to the many friendly staff who made my stay so nice. Special thanks to Ruth in Guest Relations who assisted me when something unexpected happened to me during my stay. Although my stay was only 2 nights, wildlife sightings were great, especially the elephants. I got to see Ulrica, the matriarch of the UA group who is now 58 years old. I also was able to photograph Mount Kilimanjaro with elephants in the foreground which is always special.
it looks great. you can choose to stay in the room overlooking the animals or overlooking the kilimanjaro. the desing is wonderful at the main building, the restaurant, the rooms, the pool... worth to relax.
The quintessential view for a lodge in Amboseli
Amboseli National Park is famous for its spectacular views of Kilimanjaro and for elephants, giraffes and other wildlife walking in front of the famous view. Two older lodges close by are now abandoned--they had the spectacular views. But Ol Tukai Lodge remains open and it has that quintessential view right outside your chalet window: the mountain, with the game on the plans in the foreground. Ol Tukai is a a rustic, well-established lodge, still busy in spite of the fact that most of the other lodges are closed right now owing to Covid. The lobby is impressive, with a collection of classic African tribal carvings. The gardens and pool are spacious and well-maintained. The buffet restaurant and bar area makes for pleasant meals and evenings. There is a cute gift shop with tempting items to purchase. The chalets are pretty basic and a bit dated, but they are comfortable. The views outside count for more. And the Lodge is actually IN the park, not situated outside the Park like many other lodges. It is a long-established lodge that is unpretentious, and not slick. You will enjoy relaxing here, and using it as a base for game drives in Amboseli.
