Grand Hotel Açores Atlântico’s glamorous ocean-liner vibes come with glossy floors, glittering spaces and a gilded staircase. There’s catch-of-the-day at ocean-gazing Balcony restaurant, Old Cubans on Vapore’s terrace and a large and glinting indoor pool. Sage green and soft white rooms with parquet flooring are designed to soothe, and suites feature separate living rooms.

Rooms
The individually decorated 130 rooms and 10 suites have an elegantly classic design, with warm-hued wooden furniture, parquet flooring and a calming colour scheme of mossy green, sand and soft white. The lead-in Twin City View Rooms, only some of which have balconies, look over the streets of Ponte Delgada and are available as singles. There are also Triple City View Rooms with an extra single. Upgrade to one of the Twin Bay View Rooms to enjoy bay views from your balcony, or a Twin Sea View Room to benefit from an even better outlook. The suites, named after the Empresa Insulana de Navegação line’s most famous ships, are divided into Junior Suites, with bay and sea views, and Suites that benefit from a private balcony; both have a separate living room.

In the restaurant, ocean views provide a suitable backdrop for dishes that take their cue from the ports of call on São Miguel’s trade routes, while the popular bar – whose name means ‘steam’ in Italian – has a shaded outdoor terrace where you can enjoy your drink to the accompaniment of an invigorating salty breeze.

The hotel’s main restaurant takes its culinary influences from the trade routes that have long connected the Azores islands with each other, the mainland and the wider world. The result is a mixture of international and local dishes given a stylish update and made using the freshest local ingredients.
Vapore
Serving cocktails and an all-day menu that encompasses everything from sharing plates and sandwiches to top-notch seafood pasta.
The tables on the arcaded terrace of Vapora are some of Ponta Delgada’s most coveted for people-watching.
