Return to Paradise
32 years ago a young honeymoon couple arrived at Blue Waters and were instantly smitten. We finally made it back, but would it be the same? We need not have worried. The Resort occupies a few more acres these days, but the relaxed ambience, hospitality and beauty of the surrounding gardens remain just as they were. We travel with a wheelchair now, as Kathy has MS, but although Blue Waters does not purport to be a fully accessible hotel, the network of paths and the occasional ramp meant we could get wherever we needed to. The Palm Restaurant was perfect for us and breakfast was always a brilliant start to the day. We also dined at the Cove, which is spectacular. But of course what really makes the place so special are the people. From Hudson and Jarmal, appearing on the beach with trays of fresh fruit in the morning, to Aldrick, smiling broadly as he tended the shrubs; from Derah, Lucinda, Kina and Sparkle looking after us in the restaurant to Alex teaching us to fish. I even managed a couple of sociable morning runs with Kevin, the brilliant General Manager, whose team is a tribute to his approachability and attention to detail. There are so many we’d like to mention - Natalia, Elicia, Desiree, Shanna, Michel, Tramayne, Machala, Jilliana, James, Elias, Adrian, Jason, Quincy, Lystra, Wendy, Karen (KP) and Kadeesha. Thank you all for making our week at Blue Waters just as wonderful this time as it was in 1989. We hope to see you again.
First visit to Blue Waters Antigua and it was superb we had a garden view room but could sit outside and look out over the bay, very relaxing. The staff were excellent the room was excellent and the food was excellent. We had one poor experience dining at the cove however on saying that as soon as the staff were made of it the following morning we were visited at breakfast by a manager who like all of the staff was very apologetic. We decided to try again and were very happy that we did, it was a different experience and totally worth five stars. All the staff were exceptional for the whole visit. Reading other reviews about entertainment, for us it was ideal just right. Classy rather than loud and if you want a partying scene then try Margaritaville. All round an excellent holiday and definitely worth a second visit.
Probably the best Hotel on the Island
We stayed at Blue Waters from September 26th till October 6th, The staff are , without doubt, the best I have ever encountered in all my years of travelling. They are kind, courteous and caring. They are always smiling and so willing to please their customers . This includes all staff, not just the waiting and bar teams. The resort is delightful, has 3 pools with good sunbeds and many umbrellas, 3 restaurants including the superb Cove. The food is fab. Water sports include kayaking and Hobie cats, with instruction if needed. The bay is sheltered and perfect for swimming. Loads of other attractions can be organised , from golf to tours round the island by land or by sea ( Try the Antigua Extreme circumnavigation in their 45ft powerboat with triple out boards- immense!) The rooms are very comfortable, we had room 116 with balcony over looking the bay, The maids do a superb job too. Absolutely spotless.
Superb holiday - very happy
Goodness - where to start with this excellent hotel and spa… From the moment we arrived to when we left ten days later, we were met with excellent service from very friendly and hard-working staff. The grounds are beautifully maintained and, for us, the hotel had the right amount of amenities (water sports, gym and swimming pools) to ensure there was always something to do but that we could switch off and relax as well. We had a deluxe beachfront room (number 405) which could not have been better situated for us - in the middle of the complex with everything within very easy reach. The air conditioning in the room was an absolute god-send for a fitful night’s sleep, and the ceiling fans made for a pleasant experience each evening sitting out on the verandah to watch some glorious sunsets over the beautiful Caribbean Sea. If I were to pick up on just one point, the electrical fittings in the room are dated - for example, there are no USB charging points and the light switches / ceiling fan controls could do with updating. But these are very, very minor points which did not detract from the holiday at all. Otherwise, the room was well-appointed with a spacious bathroom and suited us down-to-the-ground. As other commentators have said, what stands out about Blue Waters is the outstanding service you get from all the staff - from the waiting staff to groundsmen. A very nice touch is that Kevin (the general manager) goes out of his way each day to chat to all the guests to ensure they’re having a good time. And whilst it is invidious to name individual staff members because frankly they were all excellent, we would give a special mention to the following: Derah, Sparkle, Tremaine, Hudson, Alrick, Jason. With their individual Antiguan personalities, they gave us much pleasure with their service - Derah in particular has a wonderful smile which, whilst hidden behind the current hotel mask-wearing policy during Covid, shone through her eyes! The food was consistently excellent - the Cove Restaurant caters for fine dining needs, whilst the Palm Restaurant, Veronicas and Carolyns caters for everything else. We particularly liked the breakfasts in the Palm Restaurant - different flavoured smoothies each day were a definite must! At the time of writing, the tourist industry is trying to get back on its feet in Antigua after Covid. So the hotel wasn’t full - about 50% capacity would be my estimate throughout our stay. In many ways, it was an ideal situation for us - the hotel wasn’t crowded but there were enough guests and staff around to create that ideal ambience. And whilst the guests were mainly British like us with a smattering of Americans, there was a nice age profile of retirees, working couples, honeymooners and parents with very young children. I can imagine that during school holidays there would be plenty of families as well. So, would we return? Most definitely yes. Would we recommend it to friends and family? Absolutely! Thanks again to Kevin and the whole team for such an enjoyable stay!
We had our 4th visit to this wonderful resort 11-18th September - it's one of the few places we've ever been (and we travel a lot) where you can switch off as soon as you arrive. They take care of everything for you - all of the staff and the manager - Kevin -are so helpful and hands on - they make you feel like part of the family. The resort is stunning and literally like paradise. It was so nice to see Wingrove still there and all of the other staff we recognised from previous visits. They're a credit to Blue Waters. Thanks again for making our holiday another one to remember.
