Remote and untamed wilderness
Ruaha is the destination for a safari away from the crowds. Its vast landscape is primarily rugged, semi-arid bush country, bordered by the Great Ruaha River to the east and the Mzombe River to the west, with rocky outcrops and sandy river tributaries.

Ruaha holiday highlights
Ruaha lies in in south-central Tanzania, a 1 hour 45 minute flight from Dar es Salaam. As the meeting point between East and Southern Africa, its diverse wildlife includes lion, cheetah, leopard, buffalo, elephant, African wild dog and antelope. You will need to work harder and be more patient to see game here, but the lack of other vehicles makes it more than worthwhile. There are more than 450 species of birdlife, and the birding during the wet season (January to April) is excellent. Like the Selous, game packages are included. Ruaha is closed during the peak rainy season, usually from April to May.
