Another incredible experience at Chia
This is my second year returning to Chia Laguna, and without a doubt I can say that this year was even better than the last. The property and facilities are comfortable and top notch, the location is beautiful and the beaches are some of the best in the world. The restaurants and bars are stylish and lively, and serve delicious, authentic cuisine with an ample selection for all tastes (especially on Ferragosto, where they went above and beyond to make the perfect night). What really sets this resort apart from the rest is the staff. As returning guests, we were pleasantly surprised and happy to be warmly welcomed back by all the staff members and directors, who remembered us and made us feel almost like family. All the waiters at the restaurants and bars where incredibly friendly and available. But the highlight of the resort has to be the entertainment team. As a teenager, family holidays can get somewhat boring at certain times. But with this amazing team of young and energetic staff, every day was full of memorable and fun experiences. A special shoutout has to go to Sara Vinci and Matej Sabol of the Adventure group (the entertainment group for kids in their teenage years), and Lorenzo Peirone, the “Capo di Animazione”, (head of the entertainment team). Sara, Matej and Lorenzo are charismatic, energetic, and just outright great people. They make sure that everyone feels welcomed, and take great efforts to get know all of the guests on a personal level. I can safely say that I consider all of them friends whom I hope I’ll get to meet again in the future. They put in a lot of hard work during the day and night, organizing shows, nightlife events, and social and sporting activities that cater to both young and old people. Thanks to their hard work, there was never a dull moment hanging out with them and with the many friends I’ve made in these past 2 years at the resort, both old and new. Writing this review, I already feel nostalgic of all the great moments I experienced during my stay at Chia Laguna. This is truly a wonderful place where people of all ages can relax, have fun, and make great friendships. I sincerely thank every member of staff that contributed to making my stay so memorable, and I truly hope that I will be able to return again next year!
Fab family time!
It was our 1st stay in Chia Laguna in Sardinia and It was absolutely fab. It was family holidays with two boys (5yrs & 3yrs old) and believe me no one was bored. Location, food, staff and all activities for adults and children were spot on. We have been upgraded from Village to Oazzi Hotel. We have only sent our children for Pizza Party once to the kids club otherwise our children love spending time with us and we as well so no point sending children to the kids club on holidays. Family holidays are to spend time all together (they go to school and nursery at home) but of course every parents have different point of view. The Kid Club staff and entertainment during the evening are absolutely marvelous. We would like to say a big thank you to our the best aqua aerobics & yoga teacher CAROLINA. This lady is amazing, her classes were brilliant (my little boys adore her so much). Hopefully the hotel can read that and pass this message to her boss. Her personality and her amazing teaching skills made our activities very interesting and welcome. I can see a huge potential in her future career. BRAVO!!! Definitely we will recommend this place and come back again!!!
Needs more attentive staff
The place is lovely and authentic but our stay was marred by the lack of staff after 7pm. Once we had a problem with the safe and we had to wait for the next morning after 9am when maintenance staff are available and on another day our room was not cleaned and not serviced with towels and toiletries. Our balcony door was also left open by the staff ! Once again we had to wait till the next day for the room to be cleaned. We had to ask for the duty manager the next day and his lame excuse was that the cleaning staff could not enter our room when the interlinked room was cleaned !
Suited for families with young kids & make sure you check prices for Village and Hotel
Based on our family trip in July 2019 (me, my wife, son(20) daughter (15) & we stayed at the Chia Village Before I highlight the Good, the Bad and Summarise, I wanted to mention Pina who was exceptional and looked after us so well at the "Chia Hotel" bar. Others to mention are Caterina & Francisca @ the Spa. I feel I should also mention Massimo who is the Hotel Manager and tried to help us as much as possible. Thank you all and now to my review. GOOD - the Village gardens are well kept - Staff are on the whole very friendly - Spa is very nice but unless you have a treatment, you will need to pay 35 euros each for 2 hrs use of their facilities - Beach is good BUT, you can only sit in certain area as Village guests & a different areas as hotel guests. Fortunately we did not have issues getting sun beds as we went early July. Late July when the hotel gets really bsy, I am not sure if there will be enough sunbeds to go around, just like at the pool in the Village - Gym is not great but OK - There is a free train service that takes you to the beach and back every 15 mins which is great and thank god its free - The Hotel Baia is across the road & part of the asme resort so you can use its facilities also for free & it has a much nicer pool so use that instead of the Village pool which will be full of screaming kids but get there early - There is a stage where staff perform every night, mainly to entertain the young kids (not really for adults) BAD - The Village is NOT 4*. I would say 3* would be more appropriate - A bit confusing but basically the Chia Hotel & Village is in the same resort. The Chia Hotel has its own dining area, pool & basically better in most areas. I would challenge that its not 5* based on other 5* hotels I have stayed at around the world (in my humble opinion & I have travelled a fair bit) RECEPTION - Reception for the village is like checking into a summer camp. Not very welcoming & does not shout out 4* in any way nor does it give you a sense of occassion and lacks the wow factor (at least the staff were friendly - Even though they have the air con on at Reception, if you arrive with a handful of guests, you will be queuing out of the reception in the heat...not a great first impression ROOMS - The room is not very big but OK as we selected ones with a balcony, have a small TV & the bathroom is rather small with Shower & no bath - Now if you have small kids be very careful as the daft design on the towel rails is rectangle (at least it was in both our rooms) & the edges are sharp so i would be surprised if accidents have not been reported regularly POOL - For the Village guests, there is a pool which is not very big & is geared towards young kids - We went around 10:30 on our first day and all the sun beds were taken, When I asked if they had any more the answer was no. With the number of guests they have, the sun beds are no way near enough but its first some first serve so as with most other resorts, you have to turn up early, put down your towels and then go to breakfast. Ridiculous FOOD - The main restaurant is The Bouganville where most of the young staff are pleasant but some of the older staff are really grumpy Breakfast - Breakfast is OK but on several occasions, when we asked for omelettes, they were raw - For some unknown reason, the last 3 days, they decided not to put out any yogurt - They have 2 coffee machines and 1 broke down practically every day Lunch - We did not have lunch so can not comment - We did have lunch at the restaurant buy the beach & it was good but the pizza were average (perhaps as I am comparing them to the one's I had in Naples which were excellent). Dinner - If you are a vegetarian like me, you will be eating pasta with tomato sauce and salad for your entire trip as that is all they have to offer...just not good enough!! - Now, in the welcome letter it says 1 bottle of water per adult but they ALWAYS gave us and others 1 bottle and you had to ask for another 2. Just poor by not giving you your entitlement and I guess prompting you to purchase drinks. Unforgivable and shame on them! - We had dinner there every day as it was included in our package and apart from the cold meat & salads etc, the hot food was terrible. It was either under cooked, unseasoned or both and as mentioned already, the veggie option was non existent - Puddings were not great either & often dry as no ice cream was on offer - There was no Tea or Coffee available for dinner as they turned the machines off. If you wanted tea or coffee, it was charged. How mean & tight is that!!! - Some of the restaurants close during the day and there is a Pizza place in the corner of the Village by the Stage but I never saw it open - There is a Sushi restaurant in the Baia Hotel across the road. It is NOT included and you have to pre-book which we did as we were sick of eating at the Village restaurant. The sushi place was no better and it was so expensive for the quality of the sushi. Food at Yo Sushi & Wasabi is better (for those that are familiar with these food chains) Excursions - We booked 2hrs horse riding through the hotel and there was a screw up in the booking as only 1 hour had been booked. Just as well as the 1 hour was useless. We were NOT advised to wear trousers and the trail was so narrow in parts that both my with & myself had our legs cut by the branches. My daughter had done horse riding in the past and the horses did not seem to be up to the task & seem to struggle. The owner was friendly but I would NOT recommend it as the hotel will tell you the views and route is great when in fact its not. Save your money - We also booked a full day boat trip on a dinghy for 90 euros each. Again, it was sold as taking you to some beautiful beaches etc.. but not one of the beaches were nice, in fact, I would not even call some of them beaches. You get taken out to some areas where the military carryout drills so the park of the cove is restricted and not accessible by car & can only be reach by boat but its not worth 90 euros honestly. You get to swim in the sea in some nice spots but again, its not worth spending 90 euros each. I would not recommend it and suggest you save your money. This was probably the best day of our trip, not because of the trip and the non-existent beaches but the company as there were 7 other people with us who were very lively and we all had a great time. Had we had a different crowd, the trip would have been a disaster SUMMARY If you have a young family, perhaps the Chia Village/Hotel is for you but if your kids are 12 & over, they are likely to get board as there is no atmosphere at the hotel, a lonely table tennis table in a massive open space which could have been used more constructively and a bit of imagination and creativity would go a long way. There is no where to sit and watch TV, no sports bar, no games room, no dico...its pretty dull and caters for families with young children. Plus, its in the middle of nowhere with the nearest town of Pula 25 mins drive at a cost of 40 euros each way and nothing to see there anyway. Would I go there again? definitely not! Would I recommend it? Not to my friends but if you have young kids, you may want to look into it. Remember, the Hotel is in the same resort so get a price for that also. Both are not going to be cheap and for the amount of money we spent, we should have booked an ALL INCLUSIVE holiday in a real 5* hotel in Belek Turkey. I know the review was long but I wanted to get the main bullet points out and I hope it has been useful.
Exceeded all expectations!
Booked this holiday via secret escapes on a whim, shortly after started to look at reviews and started to get disturbed by some of them so really didn’t know what to expect! Stayed for 7 nights at chia Laguna village in a garden room with a balcony, no other upgrade (this also put me on edge as we usually upgrade whenever available!) Have to say, really impressed with the overall stay and can’t see what some of the negative reviews are saying at all. This is a wonderful place to stay :) Room: although the “cottage” rooms are fairly small, it isn’t so small that you are tripping over your stuff, plenty of storage and space. The shower is one of the nicest I’ve used in a hotel and the air conditioner was really good quality and not noisy at night. Only thing that could have been a little better was the daily housekeeping, the toiletries weren’t always replenished and they didn’t give clean drinking glasses every day or clean the floor with a vacuum and mop just a dustpan. Regardless of that, I wouldn’t say it was unclean. Pool: I was a bit worried when reading about the pool that it was full of kids and be crowded as there is only one pool for village guests but it was pretty quiet the majority of the time. There is a separate pool for the smallest children and they had their own pool parties etc meaning the main pool was really nice to spend time in. Towels provided which can be changed up to twice a day. Really good daily aqua aerobics class and there was always a lounger free Spa: the spa was actually outstanding and can honestly say the nicest facilities I’ve ever used. Lovely staff who were really pleasant without being over bearing and allowed us to explore the facilities at our own pace. There’s a beautiful rooftop pool area, hydrotherapy circuit which consists of different heated jacuzzi pools, an indoor hot tub plus all of the different sauna, steam rooms etc we had facials which were lovely as they were very professional and also used natural local products. Would have definitely used a second time If staying for longer! Beach: not the best in chia, but if not renting a car and relying on the little hotel Train it’s nice enough but does seem busy, we didn’t go to this beach as there are so many lovely beaches in the area which are quieter (tip: go early to any beach as they are super crowded in the PM) Food: half board includes a buffet breakfast and dinner in the bouganville restaurant. Breakfast was good, although it was the exact same every day it was good quality and food was replaced quickly. All the reviews which said dinner was cold, the staff have bad attitudes and the food doesn’t taste of anything were way off from my experience. The best thing about it was the fact you can just seat yourself and go up and get your food without any ordeal. The second you sit down, they take your drink order and you have your drink almost immediately. Yes there are a lot of cold dishes, it’s a hot country so typically a lot of salads but if a cooked dish was meant to be hot then it was hot. High quality food and the fresh pasta was amazing The only things about the food here is that they do not cater for special dietary requirements and work on the assumption everyone eats seafood. Unfortunately we don’t eat fish, chicken was only served once in our stay and there were not any vegetarian or vegan options some evenings. We went three nights in a row without being able to eat much at dinner one of which we drove up the road to have a pizza. On the website it says there is a pizzeria in the main square where the entertainment is but it was closed the whole time we were there. The dine around option is too expensive it’s either a 30euro or 50 euro per person per meal supplement, so you are kind of stuck with one place where the food doesn’t vary much I will point out that this is just personal taste and if you aren’t a picky eater (like me) then it won’t be an issue at all. When there were dishes I could have it was excellent. The car rental from the hotel is over double the price than from the airport and the drinks prices are typical hotel prices but there’s a lot of shops to stock up the fridges in the room. I don’t have kids so I can’t comment too much on the kids clubs but from my observation the kids staff put a lot of effort in to keep the kids happy and entertained and there’s loads of things going on for kids without it effecting any of the main facilities for adults. The check out process was smooth and easy and they got all the room charges spot on. If it wasn’t for some minor things I really could have given it a 5 star rating. This is a really high end resort which I am missing already and would highly recommend
