Romantic and scenic
Elegant hotel in a beautiful setting. Amazing views, food, and service. Located close to the city center. You won’t find a better place to watch the sun set than the terrace here. Can’t wait to go back.
A Most Magical Place
I cannot say enough wonderful things about the Grand Hotel Royal in Sorrento. This is the most beautiful, elegant hotel in Sorrento (we have stayed at many in the area). From the moment you walk in and register, the staff is exceptional - warm, inviting, and professional. And from that moment on, they all know your name. The rooms are magnificent - I booked waterfront for myself and one for my sister-in-law. She told me that she felt like a princess while there. The terraces are large and the views are amazing. The location is a 2 minute walk to Tasso Square. Each evening before dinner we went downstairs to the bar for aperitivo. We chose to sit outside so we could enjoy a view of the grounds and the bay. Staff, once again, excelled. One waiter heard me tell my sister-in-law that I was a bit chilly, so suddenly the outside heater was lit. I asked him about the mosquitoes that late in the season and suddenly 5 citronella candles appeared. The breakfast buffet was incredible. Rows of scrumptious food, accommodating diverse national preferences. From Italian pastries, charcuterie boards, to American bacon, eggs, and waffles, the food was plentiful and delicious. The spa is fantastic. I availed myself of a deep tissue massage and could not have been happier. I was so relaxed after the massage that I could barely pull myself to the bar for a prosecco :) I could go on and on, but I think you get the drift. This is a most magical place.
I would definitely stay here again! The staff was very professional and helpful. The entire experience was lovely. The rooms were extremely clean and spacious. This hotel is in a great location with great views of the beautiful coast and walking distance to restaurants and shops.
If I could - I would never leave this hotel.
We had reservations for 3 nights and then found that we could not leave! So we added one more night and then sadly we had to leave. What a fabulous hotel with stunning views. Definitely get a terrace on the water side of the hotel. You can not only see Naples from there, but you can watch the cruise ships and ferry come and go. There is a line of comfortable chairs on the terrace that you can have a drink and snacks and watch the boats and the sunset. The room was beautiful and spacious. The bathroom was really nice, but an odd configuration for the bathtub. You have a small enclosed area in which to step over a very high side to the tub. My friend had injured her leg so she couldn't use the bathtub/shower combination. I was concerned about falling. I think it needs to be redone. I loved the tiles and the colors throughout. Everyone was very helpful. Loved the breakfast where you can sit by the window with a great view. The hotel helped us a lot. They ordered car service for us to pick us up at ferry station in Naples and take us for a tour of Naples, then to the hotel. The cost to do that was 100EUR which I thought was extremely reasonable. The hotel is located just a short walk from the center of the city with all the shops and restaurants. Before you get to the town, on the left is a restaurant that was so good and reasonable we ate there twice. The hotel also arranged a tour to the Amalfi Coast. We were so happy there - beautiful hotel, beautiful grounds and spectacular views.
Fabulous, but felt uncomfortable
The hotel was beautiful. It was the end of season (which we knew and not through any fault of the hotels ) - so it was very quiet. While we were aware it was the end of season, we felt uncomfortable and unwanted in the hotel. While lying by the pool staff were clearing away tables and loungers around us, only leaving what we and another couple were lying on. Also all the chairs and tables on the terrace were cleared away. I understand that this has to be done and it is of no direct fault of the staff, I personally think this should wait until all guests have left the hotel. It in turn made us feel awkward. Secondly I asked for a coffee after my breakfast and asked the waiter to bring it to me on the terrace, I was told no as 'he doesn't serve on the terrace'. This was no problem the previous day. It is an expensive hotel - even in the off season so one would expect a 5 star service. Breakfast was nice and the front of house staff were extremely pleasant and helpful.
