We visited in September with our 11 month old son and parents and stayed in a 3 bedroom villa. The villa was very spacious with a lovely living/ dining area and outdoor space with infinity pool. Views were fantastic. We had requested fencing around the pool which was organised ahead of arrival and we were also given a play pen to keep our young son safe. We also asked for blackout curtains which were fitted for us. We received a very warm welcome on arrival, making us immediately relaxed. The staff at the hotel are fantastic, which really sets it apart from others places. They were particularly good with our son and Dima from the kids club looked after him brilliantly. The kids club itself was great and had a shaded outdoor area with ride on toys, swings and slide. Food was generally good quality with a large selection at breakfast, including eggs to order and local specialities. We enjoyed daily room service lunches and dinner in the hotel on a number of occasions however we felt the a la carte was slightly over priced. We celebrated my birthday whilst there and my husband organised a barbecue at the villa which was fantastic. The hotel is the perfect place for a relaxing family break and would definitely return.
Most relaxing and beautiful week away in the sunshine!
From the very start, the staff did all they could to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. We stayed in the Phillipos Suite for three nights and then moved to Villa Mirabello for the remaining three nights. If you can, you should definitely upgrade to a villa - they are stunning and you really see a difference when staying in one of these. The a la carte menu was incredible, we had this on two occasions and well worth it. The half board menu options were to a decent standard on all evenings. We left after a week feeling very relaxed and will definitely be returning in the future for another great week.
Fantastic stay at EGV
My wife and I went to Elounda Gulf Villas for our honeymoon. When we arrived, the reception staff was helpful and very pleasant. After going to our room, we went to the bar, got drinks and ordered food to our room. The service was excellent. We woke up the next morning to a stunning, red sunrise. It was gorgeous. We spent 4 nights in the Minos Suite. We loved the infinity pool and the sauna. On one night, we signed up for the traditional Crete dinner experience at the resort. The staff welcomed us and treated us like family. We saw traditional Cretan dancing and ate the traditional food. Was a great night. On our last day, we rented an ATV through reception. We drove all around the Spilalonga Peninsula, Elounda, and Platka. Was a terrific experience. Last thing about EGV: my wife wanted me to mention that there were plenty of gluten free options and staff was knowledgeable about gluten allergies. All in all, wonderful place.
This beautiful property sits above the breathtaking Elounda Gulf. Upon arrival we were welcomed with a warm smile and a cool drink. We were upgraded to a full villa with a large pool and back yard area which included numerous chairs, loungers and dining area. Our suite also had a separate floor with private massage/steam room area with a second bathroom. (I think the space could have been better used as a second bedroom or living space, but no big deal as we spent most of our time on the outdoor deck or in the backyard pool area.) Our welcome continued with a large fruit basket and delicious bottle of local wine. We also received a bottle of olive oil and gift book. The room was a wee bit small, but adequate, including a large bathroom, dining table and chairs and plenty of storage for clothing and luggage. The bed was comfy and the sheets superb. The restaurant was also top notch, from the delicious breakfast (note you can order fresh eggs in addition to the buffet), to cocktails and fabulous dinner choices. I had the risotto twice! Service was professional and friendly. George at the bar is super nice and helpful. The view to die for.... We also had room service for lunch one day since we did not want to leave our gorgeous villa. That too was delicious, and the set up by the server was impressive. We were in a top villa, so needed to take a golf cart up the hill, particularly in the evenings, but the service was efficient and no problem at all. As we were leaving early, before breakfast, they sent up a breakfast basket for us including fresh juice, coffee, tea, fruit, cheese and meats and pastries, delivered an hour before our departure. It was enough to have a bite and then make sandwiches for our travel day on the ferry!I cannot say enough about the great service, friendly and helpful staff, and beautiful villa and view. The location is a short taxi ride from the quaint town with lots of great eateries and shops. Not to be missed. Truly a 5-star experience in every way, while managing to exude the local vibe and culture of Crete. Highly recommended!
Perhaps if we has stayed in a Villa, we would have had a better experience.
Accommodations - Deluxe Senior suite Perhaps if we has stayed in a Villa, we would have had a better experience. - First the good - The suite was beautiful, convenient and well maintained. Welcome from staff was wonderful. The Serving staff at restaurant and cleaning staff were personable, helpful and polite. Th private beach club was a welcome respite from public beaches. - Now the not so good. Please get specific directions on the Hotel location and is not marked on the incoming road. Our GPS was not working and this cost us about an hour until we called the hotel and were told what gas stations to turn at. Some minor items in the room were not functioning . For example the keypad was broken off the safe. Towels are like gold here for some reason- Only one per guest daily in the room, and if they were out at the pool we twice waited at least an hour. We had no drinking water in the room at arrival, after calling the desk twice, we finally received it (about three hours) after I mentioned it to the hotel manager. Prices - The markup on wine and food here is astounding. The most amazing negative to this resort was in my opinion the food. After arriving here from stays in Reythymno and Chania, the drop off was incredible. Our first night was 'Greek' night with live music and dancers who were very good, But I would describe the food as 'Greek Cafeteria' quality. Another night I ordered Lamb Shank, which was the worst I have ever had - in any country.
