Idyllic, mystical and effortlessly enchanting — picture-perfect Bora Bora is the typical paradise island.
After a scenic propeller plane flight over the water from Tahiti, you’ll be stepping foot onto fabled Bora Bora. A stay on the 'Jewel of the South Seas' is the stuff of dreams — it’s one of the most romantic places on Earth, home to a rugged green island interior fringed by a rich blue lagoon and a ring of surrounding motus. Breathtaking views over a pair of extinct volcanoes at its centre and blissfully secluded overwater villas make this perfect honeymoon territory. Swim, snorkel and dive in shallow crystalline waters, or just stroll along strips of pristine white sand. Bora Bora holiday highlights
Bora Bora has one of the most magical lagoons you’ll ever see, but don’t worry if you’re not overly confident in the water — there are loads of shallow areas which are perfect for paddling. Go snorkelling and scuba diving to see swarms of flickering fish and all shades of green, blue and orange on display in the coral gardens. You’ll cross paths with everything from turtles, sharks and dolphins to manta and leopard rays. Other watersports including kayaking, sailing, windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding and jet skiing are also available.
On land, Bora Bora’s dense and leafy jungle interior is great for hiking, or alternatively, choose a 4x4 tour and stop off at some of the island’s finest viewing points. If you’re up for the challenge, scale Mount Otemanu or twin-peaked Mount Pahia, the two highest points on the island, for spectacular panoramic vistas.
There’s still more to Bora Bora than meets the eye. Head to the main central island for the South Pacific’s famous Polynesian markets. We recommend visiting the largest city, Vaitape — spend time mingling with locals, browse for souvenirs and be on the lookout for black pearls (the jewelry store Arc en Ciel is a reputable and popular stomping ground).
