Jetwing Safari Camp

Cocooned in nature

On an unspoiled stretch of coastline close to Yala National Park, this tiny wilderness retreat offers a personalised safari experience.

Tucked away in wildlife-rich scrubby woodland close to a pristine stretch of dune-backed white sand, Jetwing Safari Camp is a quietly refined hideaway. Luxury here is about creating a bespoke experience, so each elegant wooden cabin has its own butler, your meals will be tailored to your individual likes and dislikes, and game drives into nearby Yala National Park take a similarly customised form. When you’re not on the lookout for leopards, there are bird trails through the grounds (shared with Jetwing Yala), an infinity pool to lounge in, volleyball on the beach for the more active, and anything from turtle hatcheries to ancient holy towns to be discovered. We recommend spending at least two nights here as part of your tailor-made Sri Lanka itinerary; this will give you enough time for a safari experience in the national park.

Why we love Jetwing Safari Camp

  • It has a restful, wrapped-in-nature setting, with a dune-backed beach to play on and the wildlife of Yala National Park on the doorstep.

  • The staff are a delight, from the personal butlers assigned to the cabins to the rangers who help make each game drive unforgettable.

  • The cabins are far enough apart that when you’re relaxing on your raised deck, you could be the only people for miles around.

  • With a team of talented chefs, a tailor-made approach to menus and super-fresh locally sourced ingredients, every meal is exquisite.

At the camp’s restaurant and rooftop bar, the menu will be curated to reflect your personal tastes, providing plenty of variety.

The Thicket
The open-sided main restaurant, with a mixture of local, Asian and international creations on offer, is the relaxed venue for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The Hive
The views are as memorable as the signature cocktails and mocktails at the intimate rooftop bar.

Deck Dining
If you don’t want to stray from the comfort of your cabin, you can arrange to have dinner on the deck, served by your butler.

Al Fresco Dining
There’s a tempting selection of venues for a private dining experience, from quiet leafy corners of the grounds to the pristine white-sand beach.

Whether you’re eating in the main restaurant or à deux among the dunes, we think you’ll love the authentic and immaculately prepared Sri Lankan dishes.

This tiny property has neither a gym nor a spa, but you can enjoy an energetic game of beach volleyball or stroll along one of the bird trails. Neighbouring Jetwing Yala has fitness facilities, a Balinese spa and a large swimming pool which guests at the Jungle Camp can access.

Wildlife is a focus at Jungle Camp, from game drives into Yala National Park to visits to another national park, Bundala. It’s a more spiritual experience at Sithulpawwa, ‘the hill of the quiet mind’, with its ancient Buddhist monastery, while the venerable holy city of Kataragama is brimming with fascinating sights. Other options include trips to the nearby village or Jetwing’s own turtle hatchery.

Low-impact and local are guiding principles at Jetwing Safari Camp. The ingredients used in the kitchen and bar come from within 21km, including from the on-site organic garden. The cabins have been carefully sited to avoid harming the landscape and were built using responsibly sourced timber.
