Emerald Zanzibar: an all-inclusive gem in the Indian Ocean

The concept is high-end all you can eat and drink, set in an idyllic nature reserve lapped by the Indian Ocean…

By Alfredo Otri
General Manager, Emerald Zanzibar Resort & Spa

Emerald Zanzibar is a new five-star, all-inclusive resort tucked away on a white-sand beach lapped by the Indian Ocean. The concept is high-end all you can eat and drink, set in an idyllic nature reserve. We have a dive centre, spa and amazing infinity pools with swim-up bars everywhere – it’s the perfect place to relax after a tiring safari, with a waiter bringing you cocktails as you soak up ocean views. Most guests never leave the resort!

As the only member of the Leading Hotels of the World in Zanzibar, you can expect the highest quality at Emerald. For a start, we’re on the island’s best non-tidal beach, so you can swim and snorkel all day. Picture powdery sand, clear turquoise water with a thriving coral reef. We’re part of a protected marine park that faces Mnemba Island, one of Zanzibar’s top diving destinations. Our dive centre offers Padi courses and excursions to explore the area’s underwater treasures.

Stay in one of our 250 luxurious suites, which range from ocean view to family and pool suites. Everything has a low-rise, Moorish design, as a nod to Zanzibar’s Arabic roots, set among exotic gardens dotted with pools that lead down to the beach. We wanted to create a sense of place, so the suites feature striking photos of African wildlife, Zanzibar dark woods and intricate arabesque latticework. Emerald is known for its beautiful, light bathrooms and the Jacuzzi suites are ideal for a romantic getaway.

When it comes to dining, we have four incredible restaurants to choose from. So, one evening you can feast on Brazilian-style steak at Carnivorous Restaurant, the next, authentic Asian cuisine at Le Asiatique, which is loved for its teppanyaki counter. Enjoy generous intercontinental buffets with live cooking stations at the Aqua Restaurant and fresh Mediterranean dishes at the Beach Club Grill. You can while away entire afternoons sipping cocktails in our pool and beach bars – we even have an Italian gelato store.

Guests love the Emerald Spa, which has an international menu inspired by everything from Balinese and Thai to Hawaiian treatments. You can indulge with various massages, facials and body wraps, then relax in our steam room and Jacuzzi. Our Zanzibar spice rituals are a highlight and the couples’ massage is especially popular.

While you’re relaxing, let the children enjoy our fantastic Dolphin Kids’ Club and teens hang out in the games room. If you prefer to stay active, you can also take advantage of our stellar sports facilities, including tennis, football and padel courts. However, most people relish the chance to simply lounge by the main pool with sweeping ocean views, accompanied by free-flowing drinks and snacks.
