Sadly, I can only give 5 stars, but I want to give 6. What an amazing hotel ! Spent 10 nights at the hotel, which we had booked to celebrate a big wedding anniversary and birthday. We were not disappointed on our first visit to Cyprus, and glad we picked this hotel. From start to finish, the staff were amazing, friendly and helpful. Nothing was an issue for them, and the small gifts of wine and fruit for both occasions were a nice unexpected touch. Even being greeted with Happy Anniversary and Happy Birthday at the restaurants was a bonus. Despite the hotel being full, we never struggled to get a sunbed, table inside or outside the restaurant, nor a seat in the bar areas. The food choice was amazing in all the restaurants, as well as the outside bars at lunchtime. The staff here and in the bars worked long hours, but were always courteous and professional at all times. Sometimes learning the basic welcomes and pleasantries in the local language goes a long way, and brought even bigger smiles to the faces of the staff. The Management also seem to want to look after the guests at every opportunity, and the welcome cocktail evening was well worth attending to meet them. The loyalty card for drinks, which starts on your second visit, is something different, and it is no surprise that 70% of the guests are returnees. Whereas the hotel rooms might feel a little dated, it is due for a big refurbishment, which should stop any negative comments about the décor. On that note, I am baffled at the recent negative comments which were left at the same time as our stay. I have never felt the need to leave a review before, let alone the thank you card we left at reception but, on this occasion, it had to be done. We Will Be Back !!
Average hotel with an inflated price.
The Athena Beach Hotel advertises itself as a premium, classy, 4 star establishment. On first impressions, the hotel is set on pleasant grounds, with an extensive array of amenities and restaurants. The reception and lobby area is beautifully presented and staff are always on hand. However... the decor of the corridors and rooms is very dated and in urgent need of refurbishment. The bathrooms are old fashioned and my room had black mold around several of the furnishings. The reception and concierge staff were polite and attentive, but the restaurant was undoubtedly understaffed and the staff they did have were junior and not experienced in waiting on. My family and I encountered several problems over the course of the holiday including some argumentative management, ignorant bar staff and an initial error with one of the rooms. When we complained about this we were assured by management that our holiday would improve, and were advised that many of the issues are due to an ongoing staffing shortage. To make up for our experience, we were 'surprised' by a free bottle of €5 sparkling wine and some under ripe fruit. The food is average. Although plentiful, and catered for many tastes there was nothing exceptional about it, and the desserts were cheap and mass produced. The visit in all was average, although not unpleasant. For the price I paid there are certainly better quality and more modern hotels in the area, with a cheaper price tag - such as the Louis Imperial Beach.

I opted for this hotel after a fair bit of reading beforehand. I have stayed in many hotels during my working life and found this one very acceptable. I wanted some warm weather before Christmas and will look for some in February / March time too. This hotel has a great location on. The beach front. An abundance of sun beds, so you never need worry about getting one. Breakfast was very good. Plenty choice and availability each morning. Really good service and everywhere was spotlessly clean. Very friendly people too. Two things bugged me. No ice machine for guests, and the size of the ice thing was overcome easily. Just ask at the bar and a bag of ice was handed over. But the cup thing drove me up the wall. 4 Euros for a tiny cup of coffee from a machine was shockingly poor. Outside was no better. The nearest coffee shops were 1.5M walk. During my 7 days I covered nearly 30 miles in total. The hotel should consider a coffee shop concession. Or someone should set one up outside in the plaza. It can’t just be me that wants a decent cup of coffee instead of beer? Would I stay here again? Yes. But there are other places I’ve seen I would want to try first.
Best hotel ever been to
I am a group leader of a party of 43 bowlers who have just returned from a 14 day stay at The Athena BeachHotel. This hotel is just the best for many many reasons. It occupies a huge site right by the sea and has many many very comfortable sun beds spaced well apart so there are always sun beds free down by the sea or around the many outside pools. All the grounds and gardens were kept beautifully and the swimming pools were spotless and the water crystal clear. There were many daytime activities run by the hotel which were well supported and appreciated by our group. We participated in the well run Potters bowls tournament at the hotel but also the hotel bowls which was extremely well run by Ann and Trevor who deserve our thanks for all their hard work. The inside of the hotel was equally as good as the grounds with large lounges and reception area which were always spotless and well served by the hardworking waiters and the very helpful reception staff. Karolina helped us on many occasions at reception, she had a lovely manner and smile and could not do enough for us. I would have to say the food in this hotel is excellent and was enjoyed by every member of our group. We ate in the Atrium restaurant which was so well managed and run by The Maitre ‘D’ Ioannis Constantopoulos assisted by the kind and very personable and efficient Ionela. Mr Constantopoulos had arranged seating together for our party when we arrived at the restaurant which was so important to our group as nearly 50% of people travelling with us were on their own so all his excellent preparation meant no one ate alone. Ionela greeted me every evening and was just wonderful and is a credit to the hotel. I cannot speak highly enough of both these people whose attentive service along with the many, many delicious dishes just made dining in the Atrium Restaurant such an enjoyable experience. Many of the hotel bedrooms have beautiful sea views and they are kept spotless by the large band of cleaners. The hotel were very good at managing requests by our group for particular rooms as many had stayed here last year and wanted the same room. Everybody was very satisfied with their rooms and this is no mean feat by the management in a hotel of this size. I cannot speak highly enough of this hotel and for us we just cannot think there could be a better one in Cyprus. No was not an option for the staff of this hotel and they went the extra mile to give our group the most marvellous holiday particularly Ionela and Ioannis Constantopoulos I would recommend this hotel to anyone with the utmost confidence. Thank you all at the Athena Beach we will be returning next year Isobel G
