An Amazing Trip!
Palm Island is a fantastic, remote but luxurious, getaway! We loved every minute! Gorgeous beaches, fantastic food, and SUCH a helpful and friendly staff. Katie and her team make everything so easy and seamless. highly recommend this destination!
Palm Island again!
We spent another glorious two weeks starting in early February 2020 at Palm Island, our 19th time! Obviously, we are happy “repeaters” as we greatly enjoy the lush tropical surroundings, super staff, delicious meals, pleasant guests (mainly from the US, Canada, UK, and Ireland), white sandy beaches, warm Caribbean Sea and fun activities (swimming, snorkeling, biking, walking, sailing, hiking trails, repeaters’ sunset cruise on Yannis and the weekly Manager’s cocktail party). We especially appreciated the special Valentine’s Day dinner that started with long stem roses for the women, champagne, and caviar on toast! Our servers (Martinus, Shaquille, Olive and Hulda) were wonderful (see photos). In fact, all of the wait staff were friendly, efficient and professional. Thank you to Kashi, Kenroy, Glenford, Niashair and many others for taking such good care of us. Johnny the bartender and Chef Baka deserve kudos, too. Others meriting mention: Andez, the new Activities Director with his hilarious aqua-robics classes, the front office staff (Joe, Ed, Alaska), Charles, room beverage service, Lisa of Housekeeping, Waldo at water sports, Captain Manny of the Yannis, the new restaurant manager, Dervon. And of course, Katie, the Manager, who holds it all together so well. The full moon while we there brought its higher tides and some water and sand flooding of walkways but also brought more sea birds (pelicans, terns, frigates, gulls) feeding just offshore. On shore we saw egrets, hummingbirds, tropical mocking birds, banana quits, sand pipers, mourning doves and a crowned heron. Iguanas, geckos, lizards, crabs and land turtles were frequently seen. Lunch at The Sunset Bar was always a treat. Examples from the menu: great French fries to go with spicy jerk chicken or a shared pizza or sashimi or grilled fish along with fresh salad fixings. Sea turtles can be sighted surfacing just offshore during lunchl. For a small added fee, you can order a beautiful lobster meal in season. Palm Island truly offers a rich and wide array of attractions in the gorgeous Grenadine Islands. We look forward to another great vacation there in 2021.
An unusually excellent location and staff
My wife and I, with another couple had one of the best strips I have ever had. We had a great location, exceptional food, and great excursions. I would highly recommend Palm Island for a relaxing retreat. The staff was excellent, attending to our every request. Probably the best trip I ever had for R&R.
Relaxing on Palm Island
We just returned from a wonderfully relaxing vacation at Palm Island in St Vincent and the Grenadines. While getting there is most difficult, you quickly forget the long travel day and look forward to peace and quiet on a lovely private Island. Or so you thought. Palm Island is indeed a private island but the beach is not. Anyone with a boat, and there are plenty of them, can come ashore on their inflatable dinghy and spend the day. This happened so many times we lost count. While most of the time you wouldn’t notice the beach crashers at all, there were instances where small speedboats showed up to drop off beach crashers with their stereo systems blasting just a few feet from the beach. One day a mega-catamaran dropped off about 50 beach crashers, while staff could only stand by and watch. And that is exactly what they did from the Gazebo. The crashers took up a stretch of beach that was so thick with people you couldn’t get to the water. Vacationers need to be aware of the resorts extremely one-sided and restrictive cancellation policy. The language below was copied from the Palm Island website. Cancellation and Change Charges Payable by Guest: a. Cancellations more than 45 DAYS prior to arrival shall result in an administrative fee of $100 per room. b. Cancellations within 45 TO 15 DAYS prior to arrival shall result in a charge equal to 3 nights’ stay at the Hotel at the booked rate plus an administrative fee of $100 per room as liquidated damages. c. Cancellations within 14 DAYS prior to arrival shall result in a charge equal to the full amount (100%) of the Guest’s Hotel stay at the booked rate as liquidated damages. d. Arrival date changes made within 45 DAYS prior to arrival may be allowed over non-peak periods, subject to availability. If availability is confirmed, a change fee of $50 per room shall be charged to Guest. e. Additional payments or deposits may be required to secure airline reservations. Airline tickets are NON-REFUNDABLE once issued and are subject to change fees based on airline policy. Airline schedules, fees and taxes are subject to change by the airline without notice. f. TRAVEL INSURANCE IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. While at the resort, we heard an account of returning customers being denied a refund or credit after being diagnosed with a catastrophic illness less than 14 days from arrival. While this may seem harsh and heartless, Palm Island is a business and trying to recoup the money with a new booking so close to arrival is probably not possible. Given the current global Covid-19 pandemic, anyone with a vacation booked at Palm Island should consider canceling sooner rather than later. Or follow the advice of Palm Island’s cancellation policy and purchase travel insurance as it is “STRONGLY RECOMMENDED”. Make sure you scrutinize the language in the travel insurance policy closely, as this industry has many loopholes for denying refunds. We cannot say enough about the wonderful and accommodating staff at the resort. They truly deserve to be recognized for their hospitable and charming manner with which they serve their customers. They are the true shining stars of this resort. While tipping is not necessary during your stay, there is a wooden box by the lobby for tips. When it came time to return home, we stuffed the box with as much money as we had left over. And that felt very good.
Palm Island 2.0
Let me start by saying we have never revisited a resort until Palm Island. Let me also say that over half the guests at the resort on our second visit were returnees. These two statements speak volumes about the physical beauty of the island, the management of the resort, the wonderful staff, the accommodations and the region. For our inaugural trip in Feb. 2014 we recruited another couple, very dear friends, so we could book Southern Cross Villa for a week. We all fell in love with the villa and the resort and it was our hope and dream to return. When I saw Sea Feather Villa, with 3 ensuite bedrooms was available, I recruited a 3rd couple and booked it. It was a gamble, especially for the 4 of us who had stayed at Southern Cross Villa. Could Sea Feather Villa compare to that experience? Yeah. It could. It did. This would be a good place to stress how amazing the villas are. We had a peek at the other room types, which are all very nice, but the villas are a step above for location, space and privacy. Sea Feather is directly on a beautiful beach with views of Mayreau and Tobago Cays and sunrise over Iguana Hill. There is a huge beach front deck with a Jacuzzi. Two of the bedrooms have sliding doors onto the ocean deck and the 3rd bedroom has sliding door access to the island view deck. Lots of deck furniture and some sunbeds on the beach. Did I mention that the refrigerator on arrival is stocked with bread, meats, cheeses, fruit, beer, sodas, mix and wines (red, white and bubbly). On the shelf, there were litre bottles of Scotch, Vodka, Rum and Gin. A golf cart is provided for the week and you can grab a beach bike for the week as well. We loved peddling round the island just before sunset. I would be remiss if I didn’t do the shout outs … Manager extraordinaire - Katy Chef Bakka and his talented kitchen staff - magnifique, delicieuse Royal Palm Bar - Johnny and team - thx for the REAL Dark ’n Stormy Royal Palm Restaurant and Sunset Grill - great service, wicked humour - Dervon, Martinus, Jameal, Kenroy, Calvert, Glenford, Hulda, Olive, Nia Front Office - always making it work - Alaska and team Iguanas - David, Bill, Shirley, Tony (George R.I.P.) Tortoises - too numerous to name Silly Green Iguanas Who Run in Front of Bicycles - shall remain nameless In a nutshell, we are already scheming and dreaming of ways to “Return to Palm Island” But you should probably not go and if you do go, don’t book a villa and above all don’t tell anyone about any of the good stuff I wrote.
