An Enjoyable Holiday in Sri Lanka!
We 3 ladies from Singapore enjoyed our stay very much @ Hotel Heritance Kandalama for 2 nights on 1 & 2 Mar 2020. The hotel room & surroundings were very nice, and it came with a lovely infinity pool. Breakfast and dinner buffet were excellent too. Of special mention, we met Chef Gamini who went out of his way and wrote down 2 recipes for us to take home. We especially loved his Sri Lankan curry fish & chicken dishes. We were in Sri Lanka for 11 days, a lovely country and aptly described as “the pearl of the Indian Ocean”. So much to see on this tropical island - lots of cultural treasures, great beaches, Sri Lankan spices and food are to die for, local beers are cheap and good, people are so friendly too. We were also very fortunate to have Sujith who was an excellent guide from Aitken Spence Travels. Glad we managed to do this trip. The Covid-19 situation had gotten so much worse after we came home on 11 Mar. From 3 Soul Sisters in Singapore! 😃
This hotel is set into the side of a hill blending into the natural terrain. The build would have been a challenge in itself but it works very well. The hotel is remote in its location but for this you get great views and a connection with the country side. Our room was very well maintained, comfortable and the bathroom gives you a unique experience showering and looking out over the country side. Breakfast and dinner were 1st class plenty of choice with staff so help full. The grounds have plenty of monkeys hanging around signs to keep your balcony door shut as they will come into your room if given the chance. We really enjoyed our stay and would return.
A memorable experience at Kandalama heritance!
Overall we loved the stay at Kandalama Heritance. The room was really beautiful & we had overall one of the best food experiences there. It is really an architectural experience worth visiting! The staff was really nice and friendly. We did the Bawa tour, which I believe they have to promote more, since it is really interesting.
Unique setting & Architecture
We stayed at the Heritance for 3 nights when visiting the area to see Sigiriya Rock. The hotel is constructed into the hillside and has been literally taken over by the undergrowth, giving a unique feel with local wildlife living side by side with guests. Absolutely amazing to see the monkeys playing in the hotel grounds and structure, often appearing on room balconies. We had a very comfortable and enjoyable 3 nights here. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. F&B was excellent and very well priced. We particularly enjoyed their buffets at breakfast and in the evening. As stated above, this hotel is an ideal location if visiting Sigiriya Rock as only about 15 minutes by car. If I were to be at all critical I would say that certain areas of the hotel need attention. I can understand that the exterior upkeep is nigh impossible to be kept perfect due to its design and location in the hillside. However I could see things requiring attention that you wouldn’t expect in a 5* hotel - the white toilet seat in room was secured with pink brackets. Such a small cost to replace if it had been broken but clearly looked like a make-do repair. Overall a great hotel that is worth considering in this area.
Out in the Boondocks
A long way from anywhere was the feeling but once there you didn't care ! Designed by a famous local architect the building melds into the rock face and blends inn with its surroundings. The roof top pool with the rock interior, the infinity pool off the cafe, the local monkey family group, the lizards & geckos, the deer & the multitude of birdlife that abounds in the area. This Hotel has all that plus great food & drinks at fair prices. Super friendly staff & helpful to boot I had a swim with the monkeys coming down for a drink & look, my primate mates ! The rooms were huge & private with a glass enclosed open shower, a bit risque ! Had 2 great nights & quiet & comfortable stay ! Loved it !!!!
