Perfect stay except for dinner service X’mas day
I arrived at the airport & realized the closest place to buy a sim card was near the Carrefour in town (since neither my Hong Kong sim nor my 2 wifi eggs worked here), being the day before Christmas eve the traffic was crazy & even trying to find parking was complete madness, by the time I got to the hotel it was getting dark and being able to grab a nice meal (had the 9 course seafood tasting menu with wine pairing) and then roll off to bed felt so indulgent. So here is the conundrum, you visit Reunion to ogle the prehistoric landscapes and lush foliage, hike, take helicopter tours of the jurassic mountains, but once at the Margouillat, you just don’t want to leave. For those that want adventures and luxury.... this place is the place to be. Being in or near the water is what it’s all about, the pool was never crowded, the view of the incredible coastline stunning all times of the day. After each meal, it was nice knowing it was literally just one flight of steps back to the room, or just pass out under the frangipani tree. It was an impeccable stay except for dinner my third and last night (12/25) when they were obviously understaffed, I sat down at 730 pm, waited until 8 pm before they took my order, @ 830 pm my amuse bouche arrived, @ 9 pm since my appetizer still did not made its appearance, I decided to leave, especially since guests that arrived after me were served their main course already & I had an early flight to catch. Otherwise, would have rated this a 5.
good place for trecking on the w.side
A very nice hotel, easy to reach, quiet, nice rooms, good service, a beautiful view on the sea.Clean swimminfg pool with deck chairs around. A very good breakfast thar fulfills ones wishes ob the terrace. Enough possibilities to park the car.
Restaurant with rooms-more emphasis on the restaurant
We spent three night’s here at the end of a trip in Ile de Reunion. I had expected this much-vaunted establishment to be the hotel-highlight of the holiday, but I was wrong there. Great hillside location for sunsets, and lovely pool area. But really this is a restaurant with rooms. We were in the first floor with a smashing view, but my goodness me, the room left a lot to be desired. Very smalol bed, tiny poor quality tv and a weird bathroom layout meant that I spent the 3 days working out how to walk around the room without bumping into stuff. I had to put our suitcase on the floor under the table, and spent much of my time grovelling around getting stuff in and out of it as there was so little space. A major annoyance was the way staff started laying out tables in the terrace and pool area for dinner at about 5pm. Or earlier. I definitely felt a bit of a inconvenience as this also meant staff were busy and hard to make contact with. Also when we had a bar snack despite asking to eat on the terrace we were told we had to sit at the pool as those tables were for the diners later -this at 4pm when diner was from 7! I had booked an evening meal on our last night but cancelled. I’m sure the food would have been great but there was no conviviality or atmosphere there that made me want to spend more money there. We walked into town and found some great eating options with smashing friendly staff and local delicacies. I realise this hotel is considered by many to be the best in Ile de Reunion. I suggest they examine their priorities; I booked this special place to feel special, and I didn’t.
Just Awesome !
We have never been disappointed by a Relais et Chateaux hotel and the Blue Margouillat is no exception. We had a wonderful stay (too short) in this exquisite place with an awesome service. Do yourself a big favour and make sure you eat there. The restaurant serves divine fine food of excellent quality. French cuisine with a tropical touch. We recommend Blue Margouillat without hesitation.
An amazing stay for our honeymoon
We have been staying at this hotel for the last 3 nights (and still have one to go!). As it was part of a very special trip for us we were hoping for a very special stay, and I am pleased to say it has not disappointed at all. The hotel is a fantastic boutique hotel with an enormous amount of character, the room is very cool, it is not too small (as I have read in other reviews) and I was able to watch the most amazing sunset from my bathtub one evening. The views from the room/restaurant/pool area are all of paradise. The hotel is situated up a hill outside of town but we have walked to the town/beach a couple of times in approximately 15 minutes, although that said I would recommend a rental car (although I would say this for staying in La Reunion in general). The food has been of a very high quality, we had dinner here on our first night and the tasting menu was excellent as was the accompanying wine tasting - I think it was priced very fairly (not cheap) in comparison to other similar tasting menus I have had. We will have dinner here again tonight (our final night) to celebrate a wonderful stay, and I fully expect it will be worth every penny. Breakfasts have also been excellent and I am very happy that we added this to our stay. I was a little worried I had not booked in advance for dinner (I think having read another review about availability and it catering to those from outside the hotel), but we have been asked every morning if we would like a table for dinner that evening. I should also mention that the wine has been excellent. Saving the best until last, the staff. EVERY member we have encountered (reception/cleaners/serving staff/owner) has been incredible. They are efficient, friendly, classy, helpful (the list goes on!) and they have been the perfect compliment to everything else the hotel offers. On arrival, Ivana was so welcoming, at dinner on our first night Vanessa hand wrote a full page of activities (most of which we have done) for us and talked us through what we should do whilst here - all of this whilst serving our wine! Frédéric (the owner) was then kind enough to spend 20 minutes with me, annotating a map of the island and offering yet more guidance on what to do for our time here. Finally, a special mention to Louis who was never without a smile and could not help enough and Iris who looked after us at breakfast most mornings and was equally pleasant! It should be said that it feels unfair to single out staff as I have, as all of them were amazing and made our stay the unforgettable one that it was!
