Itinerary in detail

1

Arrival in Nairobi

Welcome to Kenya. Upon arrival in Nairobi, a local representative will be waiting at the airport to transfer you to your comfortable plantation-style hotel. Here you’ll enjoy delicious food, butler service and a restful evening ahead of your safari adventure. Overnight at Hemingways Nairobi.

Things to do:

2

Nairobi & Amboseli

After breakfast, fly in a Cessna Grand Caravan plane to Amboseli. Instead of the usual 13 commuter seats there are just 8 executive club class seats, offering a very high level of comfort and a truly unique experience. Amboseli National Park is known for its majestic views of Mount Kilimanjaro and its 1,000-strong elephant herds. Your base for the next 2 nights is a luxury tented camp set in a prime location within the private Kitirua Conservancy. In the afternoon you’ll enjoy your first game drive, in an open-sided 4x4 vehicle accompanied by an expert local wildlife guide. Overnight at Elewana Tortilis Camp.

Things to do:

3

Amboseli

Today you can enjoy two separate game drives around the wide-open landscape of the conservancy or national park. While searching for the famous elephant herds, you’re also likely to see grazing zebras, buffalo and wildebeest, as well as the big cats that prey upon them. The constant backdrop of snow-capped Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, only adds to the drama. There’s also the option to join a fascinating walking safari with Maasai guides or visit a local Maasai homestead. Back at camp relax with a scenic sundowner, or a dip in the swimming pool shaded by palms and acacia Tortilis trees. Overnight at Elewana Tortilis Camp.

Things to do:

4

Amboseli & Laikipia

Boarding the Cessna again, with no queues or check in, enjoy a comfortable scenic flight to the Loisaba Conservancy in Laikipia. This vast area of outstanding wild beauty is home to elephant, a healthy population of lion, the rare wild dog and an abundance of other wildlife. You’ll spend the next 2 nights in a luxury tented camp, perched on the edge of an escarpment with uninterrupted views to Mount Kenya. Here you’ll enjoy two game drives per day, as well as one of Africa's most picturesque infinity pools. Overnight at Elewana Loisaba Tented Camp.

Things to do:

5

Laikipia

This morning head out on another game drive, or a bush walking safari with traditional Samburu guides. Alternatively, a visit to the Loisaba Conservancy Anti-Poaching Unit is a fascinating and highly educational experience. There are plenty of other exciting activities available from the camp, including a 4x4 canyon drive, horse riding, mountain biking, and even a camel safari! Overnight at Elewana Loisaba Tented Camp.

Things to do:

6

Laikipia

Today you’ll drive a very short distance to the camps’ sister property - Elewana Star Beds. Here you’ll be welcomed by a team of Samburu and Laikipia Maasai warriors, the hosts for your stay. The same game drives and optional activities are on offer during the day. It’s not until the evening that you’ll fully appreciate the uniqueness of your stay here. Beautifully handcrafted four-poster beds with wheels are rolled out onto raised wooden platforms, so that guests sleep under the endless African night sky. From your bed you’ll enjoy sweeping views over an undulating valley and a permanent waterhole frequented by resident wildlife. There are only 4 rooms in total, ensuring a peaceful and intimate atmosphere. Overnight at Elewana Star Beds.

Things to do:

7

Laikipia & Maasai Mara

After breakfast, fly by Cessna to the Maasai Mara National Reserve, home to one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in the world. The area is famous for its big cats, such as leopard, cheetah and lion. And of course, the spectacular Annual Migration when over two million wildebeest, antelope and zebra flood into the Maasai Mara in search of lush pastures. Your home for the next 3 nights is an exclusive camp that lies directly on the migration route. Overnight at Elewana Sand River.

Things to do:

8

Maasai Mara

Guests can join two shared game drives per day, exploring the unparalleled Maasai Mara with some of the most highly skilled guides around. As well as the big cats, there’s a good chance of spotting elephants, giraffe, zebra, antelope, impala, hyenas and warthogs. There’s also the option of visiting a local Maasai school. Back at camp, enjoy the sublime location and cool off with a dip in the swimming pool. Overnight at Elewana Sand River.

Things to do:

9

Maasai Mara

During your stay there’s the opportunity to take a thrilling hot-air balloon safari to gain a whole new perspective of the Maasai Mara and its wildlife. Wake early and watch as the balloon is prepared, then take flight and drift upwards as the sun rises across the vast savannah. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this memorable adventure is our most popular optional experience in Kenya. The rest of the day is spent on further game drives into the heart of this wildlife-rich reserve with your expert guide. Overnight at Elewana Sand River.

Things to do:

10

Maasai Mara & Departure

After breakfast, fly back to Nairobi by Cessna. Alternatively, if you’re travelling on to Kenya’s coast, you can fly directly from the Mara to Mombasa in the afternoon.

Another stop?

We recommend finishing your African adventure with a beach stay on the white sands of Diani or Mombasa on the Kenyan Coast. Zanzibar or its small sister island of Pemba in Tanzania, are also fantastic options only a short flight from Nairobi.

Alfred & Vicki Bramley

Vicki was already well travelled when she joined Kuoni, fast forward 18 years and that experience has grown dramatically. Initially inspired by a two-year backpacking trip around Australia and New Zealand, her wanderlust led her to venture further and further afield. More recent adventures in South Africa, Kenya, Zanzibar, and Rwanda have positioned her perfectly as an Africa expert. Trekking the slopes of a volcano to spend time with gorillas in Rwanda is one of her favourite memories.
