Fantastic location and service
The Serena is located right on the best beach in Stonetown, and it is a very pleasant hotel. Although the physical building is a bit old, the staff's service was fantastic. The breakfast restaurant is literally on the beach, which cannot be replicated. The only issue was that there are no elevators. Thankyou especially to Souleiman, Anthony, Ahmada, and Rither for their help and service during our stay.
Great waterfront hotel
Hotel lobby, pool, and rooms were all excellent. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and the location is right on the waterfront and only a few minutes walk away from the Old Fort and central areas of Stone Town.
Lovely staff, gorgeous location, nice pool
This was a perfectly pleasant hotel, we had a nice stay. I would say that the rooms are a little tired but still clean with lovely views of the pool and sea. Quite pricey but the service was amazing and the breakfast was decent. Staff can't do enough to help you. Great place to stay for a few days in Stonetown!
Located in Stone Town at a couple of blocks from the Main Street and places to visit. Was the Cable and Telecommunication English Office. Nice ambience with a mix of Arabic and English style and furnitures. In front of the sea so you can have breakfast, lunch or dinner with very nice views. Good swimming pool for relax, food and drinks.
Good hotel, nice location but requires some refurbishment
The Zanzibar Serena Hotel is located centrally in Stone Town, Zanzibar. All its rooms are sea facing and the hotel is nice but little improvement has been done to the hotel over the years. It can be classified as a Five Star hotel but requires some of the following improvements: - Reception is dark and compact. Management needs to make the welcome area brighter. - Photo frame on the stairs landing has faded and requires replacement. - Mosquitoes were plenty in the reception. Does the hotel have a professional pest control contractor? - Food at the restaurant needs to be improved. Previously the restaurant was renowned for its good food. - Being a hotel in a Muslim country I wonder how the reception washrooms do not have a flexible hose. - Swimming in the adjacent beach is sometimes a nuisance because some of the public who use the beach do appear to stare strangely especially at women. The plus points were: - we enjoyed our room; - staff were friendly; - breakfast was good and so was the setting; - enjoyed watching the sunset from the room balcony. - enjoyed the swimming pool. Yusuf at the reception was very friendly, welcoming and helpful. He was full of life and it appeared that he could answer any question a guest had. Would certainly want to stay here again. Munir D.
