Honeymoon in Africa
My wife and I spent the first leg of our honeymoon at this property and it was the perfect start! The property is gorgeous, friendly staff, we stayed in a very spacious private villa right on the beach with our own pool. The food was good considering it was all inclusive (I would say better than we were expecting, but not five star quality). We loved having our own private bikes to explore the property and see all of the wild monkeys that come and go! The gym was very nice along with the spa. Highly recommend if you’re looking for something that is intimate and romantic. Only downside was the time of the year that we visited....we were expecting a nicer beach/ocean experience, but the seaweed was unfortunately all around. Check with the locals/travel agents before you book to ensure you are going at the right time of the year.
We spent 5 nights at The Residence Zanzibar in October 2019. I am sure I am going to fall short of words while writing about my experience here. We got lucky as we changed our booking last minute from another resort to The Residence. The resort is an hour and half drive away from the airport. It is the perfect place to experience the most beautiful Sunrise and sunset. The property in nestled in a super green patch amazingly close to nature. The moment you enter you can feel a certain freshness around We had a wonderful stay in an ocean view villa and Garden villa with pool, the service was impeccable what a truly wonderful hotel. The staff were very efficient and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble and they took time to recognise us personally. Thank you so much everyone who was working during our 5 nights stay .We found the staff to be very polite and professional at all times, Martin (food and beverage manager) and your assistant John thank you so much for making sure we had a memorable time, you work very hard everyday during our stay and took time to make sure we were enjoying our stay. Location was stunning and the food was amazing, breakfast, lunch, dinner and every small detail was taken into consideration. The spa is also, one of the best we have had. Thank you also to Pili and Shams Thank you for a lovely stay we will definitely come back.
beaqutiful and peaceful
we enjoy the whole trip there. so quite and peacful. all are very polite and smill all the time. you can take tripes from there to all the other beautiful places as the blue lagun or the turtel island
Perfect holiday resort
We stayed here in October for my 40th birthday. It was prefect. The villas are beautiful; huge and private. No need for sea view as Garden was private. This is one of the best places we have every stayed. Have already told all our friends they need to stay here and will definitely be back. We wished after leaving and going to other areas we had stayed longer here and not moved. The snorkeling is some of the best we have been in, the activities were enough to keep you occupied every day or just spend time by the infinity pool with a gorgeous view of the beach and sea or stay completely private in your villa with private pool. But what makes it really special and stand out and is part of the reason we will be back are the staff. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Every single staff member was friendly, warm, welcoming, courteous and could not do enough for us - birthday or not. They were like this with all the guests all of the time. Loved the Zanzibar BBQ. We will definitely be back and recommend everyone should come and stay here. My birthday was absolutely perfect and Im so so glad we were here for it.
Tropical exotic -ness personified...
Incredible time in Zanzibar and The Residence, we count ourselves extremely fortunate to be able to experience such things…and driving to The Residence (1.5 hour transfer from airport) you will see the stark contrast division between how the local people live and staying here…worlds apart sadly. It was our first time in Zanzibar & Tanzania and the people here have re energised my want to explore more of the African continent. We had a deluxe garden villa near to the main pool but still extremely secluded, private and hidden by all the beautiful trees, shrubbery periodically hummingbird would visit and the gang of cheeky monkey’s who regularly swung through daily and would sit on our pool edge to drink….we have stayed in some of the world’s finest hotels….but the villa’s are outstanding and huge on a square footage layout and ceilings so high but in keeping with the beautiful manicured surroundings. Have a very persian, Arabic feel to them inside. We only left our villa to eat breakfast & dinner, we stayed by our own pool for 7 days of the 7 day holiday. Never done that before. Bedroom, living area, bathroom, outdoor shower all spacious and decked out beautifully. Each villa gets pink bicycles (even little ones for kids). Good WiFi in whole villa, brilliant air con. We used the spa and gym regularly. The spa is great and never seemed to get used, it has a beautiful swimming pool and decking area again, very secluded but hardly used. Steam rooms and saunas in each of the changing rooms. We had couples massages and both excellent. The gym is ok, more than sufficient if you can drag yourself from your beautiful surroundings for some cardio or weights. We cycled around and it’s a vast expanse, there is nothing outside of hotel, you cannot walk to anywhere outside, you either need to book a tour or just relax with a cocktail by the pool for the duration. There is a kids club but we didn’t see it as we have no kids. I am not sure there is enough to do for children – it’s definitely geared towards adults, couples, families with near adult age children. The beach is private and is amazing. Clean, really pleased at lack of plastic washed up…hardly any, and they would be clearing seaweed away too in AM. The tide goes out for miles so not much opportunity if you enjoy sea swimming. Plus you need reef shoes. We walked all the way out until it was knee high wearing wetsuit boots and it was lovely, good photo opportunities, many starfish, urchins! You can hire out for free kayaks, sailing boats, reef shoes. There is games room with TV, library, darts board, pool table. The 49m main pool is divine, always loungers available and provided great photo opportunity. Breakfasts were fabulous choice for most nationalities. Always live station for eggs, pancakes. We were on half board and didn’t use the pool menu during day. Dinner’s were great. Some nights it was a set menu & a themed buffet (indian, seafood etc) or either just a buffet or set menu. Set menu meals were beautifully, technically presented, perhaps OTT for this establishment – have some serious ly professional chefs We loved the relaxed non formal evening atsmosphere. Didn’t feel pressure to dress up. The seafood buffet on the beach was memorable, delicious seafood with beach bonfire. The buffets always had a live station cooking pasta, pad thai and vast array of desserts. We have no children but I would think the food is quite limited for children especially if fussy eaters. Evening entertainment wasn’t amazing, but just enough to provide some ambience, which was fine for us. Alcohol seemed expensive (10USD for a single Tanqueray gin) and 30USD for a sauv blanc. The customer service / experience is extremely high. Always a FOH managerial presence at meal times and checking all was ok. Slight negative was our villa wasn’t cleaned every day we had to call to ask them to visit, timings to service it were erratic too with no pattern. The daily sheet telling of the next day’s activities / meals was quite erratic when we received it didn’t receive one at all some days. And on another they forgot to take some of their cleaning liquid and rags – just minor things other than that superb turn down service, lovely touch of tealights and incense to burn in room or use on your pool patio at night. On our last night they had laid out bougainvillea petals all thru vill and filled bathtub with foam and water and petals, beautiful touch. We would like to ‘shout out’ to Enoch for fab poolside service and Herman the security guard for just being so friendly. Also to all the staff who work behind scenes in the kitchens, the food presentation, choice & selection was superb. We hope to do a safari one day and we hope to return to The Residence for some rest and relax.
