Beautiful hotel in need of minor adjustments.
This is one of the best hotels in the city of Nairobi. It was recently renovated but the toilets (gents) are not in good condition and the pool restaurant can restaurant has worn out paint. Charity at the pool restaurant should learn to speak in a low tone. There is no need of asking a client what they will take loudly and drawing the attention of everyone. Overall this is a good hotel.
Enjoyed staying here more or less in the middle of downtown Nairobi with easy access into the heart of Nairobi city while away from the hustle and bustle of the noisy part of Nairobi. The newly done rooms are nice and service and quality of meals are very good.
Best hotel in Nairobi.
And I am not saying this because last night in the bar, out of the blue, the whole staff came out singing Happy Birthday to me. I have been staying in Serena since 2012, and I have seen in through the massive refurbishing they've done (when only the most loyal like me stayed with them) - to the current glory the hotel is at the moment after the refurbishing. They kept it the oasis - the gardens chirp with insects and birds any time of the day, the African culture is palpable, the service is always impecabble. I have tried it all in Nairobi over the years - Fairmont, Kempinski, Radisson - none of those give you the feel you came to the Lion King country as Serena does. I would mostly recommend Serena for people who start their Safaris from Nairobi. Serena plunges you in African decor, culture and courtesy from day one, and you don't feel Nairobi days are wasted. On a separate note - seek out the amazing Mr. Ambrose at Serena garden bar - he always does utmost to maximize your experience. History never fails - Serena is a legend, and for a reason. Consistency in service and atmosphere is hard to achieve when decades are concerned, and Serena manages that.
Beautiful decor, comfortable beds, and gluten free dining.
This was our first night in Kenya and we'd had a rough flight over. It was lovely to arrive at this beautiful hotel. It was a relief to get up to the rooms and find them spacious and comfortable. We were able to get cleaned up and get in a nap before an afternoon outing. The amenities were plentiful, but our short stay didn't allow us time to make use of them. However, we did dine in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast. Our meals were delicious, and the maître d' Matthew was incredibly helpful in ensuring my husband had gluten free meals. He even had GF bread brought to the table for dinner. At breakfast the next morning, Matthew also took good care of us, pointing my husband to the gluten free section of the buffet, where he could find assorted GF breads. The waitstaff were jovial and we were so pleased with our service. I've been fortunate enough to travel the world and can easily say the service here ranks among the best I've encountered.
I stayed in this hotel by chance as my husband and I went on safari to the Masai Mara my husband was taken very ill and was in Nairobi hospital. I was put up in the Serena by my travel company so was on my own. A beautiful hotel and the staff looked after me very well there is nothing negative I can say about this hotel as they went above my expectations. I will be going back to Kenya and if I do an over night stay in Nairobi this is where I will stay. So I definitely recommend this hotel.😊😊
