Melia Zanzibar: all-inclusive ocean luxury

Melia Zanzibar is a five-star, all-inclusive beach resort that lies in Kiwengwa, on the north-east coast of the island. The property sprawls over a 40-acre estate that backs onto a stretch of pure, white-sand beach. We’re ringed by a coral reef, which makes swimming and snorkelling a relaxing, safe experience. The real highlight of the property is our magnificent views of the Indian Ocean, which are extra special at sunrise.

The hotel was completely refurbished in 2019 in a contemporary style, with large rooms that have balconies overlooking the beach and our tropical gardens. Guests especially love The Level Romance Pavilions, our exclusive villas with private infinity pools and outdoor rainforest showers. There’s a variety of activities to keep you busy, from swimming to tennis, beach volleyball and island excursions.

We have six restaurants and five bars at Melia Zanzibar, including the Spice Market, which was modelled on a traditional market in Stone Town and serves an international buffet with three live cooking stations. The restaurant spills out onto a terrace sheltered by trees for al fresco dining. Our chefs from all over the world host themed evenings that feature BBQ, Arabian, Indian and seafood cuisine. Then there’s the à la carte cliff-side restaurant Aqua, which is great for romantic dinners, as well as live nightly entertainment.

Melia Zanzibar is passionate about local employment and 95 percent of our staff come from the island. We like to support the community by providing job opportunities and funding projects such as the Kairo school renovation, supplying electricity for the local village and building mosques. We’re also keen to protect the natural beauty of the island and have won sustainability awards. For instance, we have solar panels, a sustainable greenhouse and have banned single-use plastics at Melia Zanzibar.
