Tailor-made The Machangulo Peninsula Holidays

A 40km tongue of white sand beach, rolling dunes and a windswept coastline that’s blissfully unblemished, the Machangulo Peninsula is a far-flung escape where you can sink into the slow pace of life. This untamed outpost overlooks the gorgeous Inhaca Island, its most northerly part, where the Portuguese traded for ivory in the 16th century. Other vistas depict nature unfolding – great white pelicans soaring in the sky and if you’re lucky, humpback whales breaching the surface offshore.

Much of the peninsula is part of the Machangulo Reserve, an area full of freshwater lagoons, mangroves and sub-tropical forests that you could explore for days on end. Take a kayak out and paddle around its snaking emerald channels completely undisturbed save for pods of friendly dolphins that frequent the many lagoons. Or explore the Indian Ocean’s underwater kingdom in barely visited dive sites bursting with giant clams and kaleidoscopic coral reef. Otherwise, barefoot beach picnics and relaxed seafood lunches are the order of the day – any excuse not to budge from the sun-baked sand.

Find out more about this wild retreat with local guides who can assist you with everything from bird watching to fun-filled fishing trips.

Your journey will start with one of our UK team – someone like Adele, who knows Mozambique well. They’ll shape your ideas into the trip of a lifetime. But they won't do it alone. They'll draw on the expertise of our contacts on the ground, connecting you to the people who'll make your holiday one you'll always remember - people that can direct you to the best locations to spot dugongs, turtles and angelfish; who'll take you to their village so you'll get a real insight into local culture; and who'll invite you to join them for a spot of sandboarding.
