It was amazing
From the moment we entered the gate and was met at the reception we were blown away by the best level of service my wife and I have ever experienced. The staff were confident, welcoming, informative and were never patronising. They were sincere in every way. The food was better than we expected and the rooms were spacious and very well equipped. Being welcomed by a blazing fire after dinner was a treat. Our guide was very informative and had a deep appreciation for the fynbos. Thank you for making our trip a wonderful memorable experience
My wife and I recently spent 2 nights in forest lodge with friends. This was a very unique and special experience that we thoroughly enjoyed. The rooms are magnificent with spectacular views. We experienced 5 star dining for breakfast, lunch and dinner. All restaurant and bar staff were very helpful and friendly. Lots of unique activities to keep you busy, all with the help of your own personal guide (Special mention of Alison whose knowledge of the local flora and fauna was exceptional and very engaging). Highly recommended.
We stayed for 2 nights at the Forest Lodge. Were welcomed by Jo, our guide for the complete stay. From the Forest Walk, visiting the caves, and the 4x4 Safari, she is really passionate about doing her job and gives you a lot of extra information. Also, all other staff are doing their utmost the make your stay a special one. The Forest Villa's are privately located. Even on colder days the fireplace in the seating area, aircon units and underfloor heating in the bathroom make your stay in your villa very comfortable. The food served in the restaurant is of very good quality and served with a lot of care. Can really recommend staying at Grootbos. We will be back for another amazing and relaxed stay.
A special thank you to our guide Mr Chumani for his outstanding hospitality, he was a big part of why our stay was memorable. This whole campus makes you feel like you're immersed in nature. We stayed in a villa on the Forest side. All of the rooms are like suites and very clean; living room w/ fireplace and second bathroom, couch becomes a sleeper, master has a king bed, walk-in closet, and a fantastically large bathroom. Each villa has a very nice patio with amazing ocean views, overlooking the natural landscape. It's quite serene and peaceful. Food, wine, and service were all high quality, not a lot of menu selections though for typical Americans; expect European, African, and Indian influences. Wide variety of activities available and a very special activities/media center for kids. Hiking trails are good for all exp and fitness levels. It was raining when we went so we didn't get to see a whole lot of wildlife, but there were more incredible views of the campus and ocean on the return. Klipgat Cave is a must see; some steps down to the beach, a very small hike on beach rocks to get to the cave itself, but nothing the in-laws (60+) couldn't handle. And our guide provided a very nice wine/cheese setting at sunset.
Words can't really describe how amazing Grootbos is! It's a place I've wanted to go to for a long time and we spent the evening of my birthday there. One night really wasn't enough. I was tempted to book another night, but unfortunately we had to get home. From the minute we arrived, we were so well looked after and all the staff are so friendly! Gareth was our guide and he was just super. Our suite was amazing! It's huge, comfortable and the view must be amazing on a clear day. Unfortunately we didn't have good weather, but it was mid-August and being winter, you can expect rain. It was still amazing. The walk through the milkwood forest was so amazing! It's really beautiful! Dinner was a wonderful experience. Every course was delicious and we had a lovely time sitting there. The biggest surprise was the lovely birthday cake they brought me! Wow! I didn't expect that and it was delicious! After breakfast we went on a fynbos drive with Gareth. It was so interesting, beautiful and informative! Though it was cold and rainy, we still enjoyed it. When we got back to the lodge, we were still offered lunch too, but we were still full from breakfast, so we declined. We were very sad to leave and hope to visit again one day. Highly recommended!
