Not a great experience...more interested in making money than offering a top quality service
Sadly our stay here was blighted by torrential rain for several days. On arrival at our room, which was quite pleasant, dirty plates and laundry had been left outside. These were only removed after 2 days when we pointed them out. We were woken very early by a gardener using an electric leave blower. On our last evening we had dinner in the room, which was actually v good. Generally the staff were friendly and helpful. However this was not the case when it came to the Pro shop and golf management. We came to play golf, and were thwarted by the weather, that cannot be helped. However on one day we managed to get a few holes in. We were the last ones off and found most of the bunkers were water logged and had to skip holes to due waterlogged greens. We finally arrived at the halfway house, and decided to call it a day. The golf staff took us back to the hotel and suggested that we should have a rain check due to the conditions. On return to the pro shop we were surprised to be told by a male member of the shop that wouldn’t be possible as we were told when we went out that it was our decision to play and the conditions were not great. We were not told this! We approached the booking managers upstairs who agreed to giving us a rain check. Sadly due to the wet weather we were unable to play. We were informed that the golf fees would not appear on our bill. When we went to check out, we were billed for 9 hols play. On challenging this, and following a number of conversations between reception and the golf management that lady who had cancelled our fees came down and apologies and informed us that the manager Nic Grundvig, has overruled her and charged us for 9 holes. Sadly he didn’t have the manners to come and explain this himself. We have been fortunate to play at some of the world’s great golfing venues and Fancourt is not one of them. What makes the truly great venues stand out is the level of service and desire for golfers to have a great experience. It was clear that making money was more informant to Fancourt that providing a world class service. Not a venue we’d recommend or choose to visit again. Needs new modern managers who care about their clients.
The hotel is a gorgeous golf course. It has the best views and the food is outstanding. I had dinner at the Monet. It’s the best prawns I have had. The breakfast at La Cantina is super too. The spread was vast and very reasonably priced. There was cup cakes and my kids devoured them. Our best food outing in South Africa.
What a fantastic time we had here Came with my family-my husband and 2 kids aged 7 and 3. The facilities are well kept,great service,everyone very attentive. There are different restaurants in the property and you don’t really need to leave the resort. My husband enjoyed great golf on an amazing course,kids loved the kids club and wanted to go there all day everyday!! They were well taken care if there with attentive minders..Of course bliss for mom, enjoyed quite time and the spa is beautiful overlooking a golf course..very relaxing. Kids got personalized cookies every night!they got to look forward to this special treat! Good Wifi,good selection at breakfast,24 hour room service..need I say more? Will most definitely return! Already looking at dates!
a bit disappointed
Spent 4 nights at the Fancourt over Christmas. While the grounds are beautiful (manicured gardens with beautiful flowers, birds etc.) and the infrastructure is a clear plus (tennis, pool, gym, children’s club), we were disappointed as some of the services and infrastructure lacked the attention we would have expected. Some examples: the gym was unattended when I was there, and I found rubbish on the floor, the bin was full, the floor was dirty. This area needs supervision. The same goes for the inside pool area, where loungers and floor were dirty both times when we were there. It seemed not supervised either. The outside pool area (outside pool was too cold when we were there) needs more “attention to detail” – it lacks the charm of other 5* properties. It seems outdated. La Cantina was disappointing, also the Christmas dinner did not reflect good price/value ratio in our opinion. There was the usual Italian fare (Lasagne, meat, fish), but nothing surprising or extraordinary, just some very common Italian dishes. Given that this was the most expensive lunch during our stay, we did not feel it was adequately priced. The ambiance in La Cantina was rushed and busy and never relaxing, especially during breakfast. But service was good/very good at all times there. Breakfast choice was a bit disappointing, we had better breakfast with more high quality ingredients in other hotels during our stay. Monet’s bistro seems to be “hit or miss” – one night we had a bad experience, not having received drinks after 45 minutes (with only 5 tables full and Manager passing our table numerous times smiling but not doing anything). Another night, all was fine, attentive staff, good food. On 25th of December, at 08.00, we had a gardener outside our room who woke up all the people when collecting leaves with a loud machine. These are the things you should not expect in such a hotel. We chose this hotel because of the wide range of facilities, but do not feel that it fully lives up to the standard of a Leading Hotel. The whole ambiance is busy, rushed, with many cars passing through the area (golf club cars, pick up cars, security cars and so on), not great if you are trying to walk some meters with a small kid and you always have to pay full attention. Not sure if we would return. We were unfortunate as the weather was also not great during our stay, however, would carefully think about a return.
unforgettable golf experience in South Africa
We spent New Year's Eve in Fancourt and we enjoied a fancy dinner at Henry White's and accomodation. We plaied golf on Outeniqua course on Jan 1st, booking a golf bag that was perfect, it was an amazing experience. Despite the highest level of quality of the resort and the location of the resort itself with three golf courses I couldn't help noticing the significant price premium compared to other high quality accomodation available in the area.
