Explore Arusha, the gateway to the north

Arusha is best known as the gateway to Tanzania’s northern safari circuit but it has plenty to offer in its own right, from coffee plantation stays to scenic flights and safari adventures. The city itself lies in the foothills of Mount Meru, an active volcanic cone that sits in Arusha’s national park. If you don’t have the time or inclination to trek up this unforgiving mountain, flying allows you to see Africa’s highest peak in all its glory. Departing from Arusha airport, you’ll float above the clouds for aerial views of Kilimanjaro’s glittering glaciers and soaring peaks, including the hikers’ summit of Uhuru. It’s a magical way to start the day.

Tours of the workshop start with a brief sign language session so you’re able to greet all of the Shanga team as you visit. You can stop to make your own necklace, shopping bag or have a go at glass blowing with the staff.
