Very Pleasant Stay
A charming property located in the Chobe National Park itself. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed, and the beds are very comfortable. The Chobe River is right in front of the rooms though you can't see it from the balcony of the rooms as trees generally obstruct the view - which is a pity (not that I am advocating cutting down trees!). There is a pleasant boardwalk that you can stroll on next to the river where you can stare into Zambia (on the opposite bank). I applaud the use of electric vehicles for game drives (for which there are two) - though not for airport pick-ups where it took a long time to get to the property from Kasane Airport. Obviously the game viewing is sometimes the luck of the draw - I was unfortuante in that in 4 days I didn't see a single predator (lion, leopard or hyena). Plenty of zebra, kudu, elephant, crocodile, buffalo, baboons and giraffes though - and literally thousands of antelope. I see other reviewers saw a better selection so I guess it must depend when in the year you go and lady luck. The guides though are very good and the staff at the property are very welcoming and friendly. The food is excellent with some nice South African wines. I would say the camp could benefit from some better lighting - it does get quite dark at night.
Very interesting lodge and great location
The place is located in the middle of the National park and it is the only hotel that is actually inside the park. The transfer picked us up from the airport on a very stylish doorless 9-seater SUV. The same car was used for safari. The hotel is almost wild, you can see warthogs and baboons just walking inside the hotel, next to the pool and restaurant. Elephants you can also see from the wooden promenade of the hotel. The hotel also has a private pier for boat game cruises. Both cars and boats are 100% electric, since the hotel cares about the environment. Rooms are very authentic and spacious. We lived in a suite, so apart from a living room and several extra beds in a neighboring room we had a private pool. Water, anti-mosquito and light snacks were included in the room as well as the minibar. Waiters in the restaurant are quite friendly but very slow. The food is good on all the courses - breakfast, lunch, dinner. Since we were a company of six, the hotel once arranged a special lunch for us on the terrace next to the river. You can buy souvenirs inside. Overall it was a great experience but the hotel needs renovation, I would make the service more efficient (if you stay at the restaurant or bar after 10 pm the staff gets nervous and you are hinted to go to the room). Such unique places deserves a bit better service.
What an amazing experience
This was the highlight of our 5 week trip to Southern Africa. The view from our room was over the river and Namibia. There were baboons wandering about the place and apparently lion on occasions. The food was great with plenty of choice. The jeep and water safaris were out of this world. Our guides were very knowledgeable and relaxed. One of them was a bird expert which pleased my husband who loves looking a wild birds. We saw numerous, crocs, hippos, elephants, impala, baboons and warthogs while out on safari. We also saw lesser numbers of meercats, banded mongoose, lionesses, and kudu.
Wonderful animals, luxurous rooms, great guides.
The people of Chobe game lodge do a great job. You get one guide for your whole stay, so when your group has seen their first several hundred of 1000 impalas (not hyperbole) your group can focus on other animals. We saw over 10,000 impalas, over 1000 elephants, many hypos, giraffes unique birds, and much more. We would love to come back in the dry season avoiding the peak tourist months of July, August and September (ideally June or October).
Beyond our expectations
I don´t think a safari vacation could be better. Excellent accomodation, service and safaris. This was beyond our expectations. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Our guide was very skilled and nice.
