Guests love being able to open their balcony doors, soak up views of the Atlantic Ocean and listen to the waves….
The strength of The Strand lies in its location on Swakopmund’s historic Mole, surrounded on three sides by the Atlantic Ocean. We’re a gateway to Namibia’s coastal and desert environments; the rolling dunes of the Namib and diverse aquatic life. Nearly 90 percent of our rooms are sea-facing and guests love being able to open their balcony doors, soak up the views and listen to the waves.
Architecturally, the Strand is stylish and contemporary, with plenty of German, old-world charm. When you arrive in the atrium, you’re greeted by huge windows showcasing ocean views and given a glass of homemade iced tea or a coffee. It’s like being welcomed into someone’s home – we pride ourselves on providing world-class hospitality.
Dining is one of the highlights at The Strand Hotel. Our Ocean Cellar offers a top seafood and wine pairing experience, with a menu focusing on three things: oysters, sushi and abalone. Guests enjoy the live sushi counter and outdoor terrace, where you can sip a glass of bubbly with your oysters and ocean views. Then there’s the Farmhouse Deli which is known for its extensive breakfast.
Head to the Brewer and Butcher for dinner to experience Namibia’s German-inspired love of beer and meat. You can tour our onsite microbrewery, which produces four beers on tap, including the malty Märzen and a fruity Weiss beer. Our chefs work with high-quality meats, from beef oxtail to lamb shank and pork schnitzel, and our waiters will help you pair the dishes with our craft beers.
Being in the centre of Swakopmund, you have the city’s historic sites at your fingertips. You can take a catamaran cruise to spot dolphins and seals in Walvis Bay, explore the Namib Desert or even take a hot air balloon ride. After you’ve been out exploring, the Strand is the perfect place to relax with a meal or in our Atlantic Spa, which offers everything from massages to facials – our couple’s treatment room is especially popular.
