Our mobile tented camp gives you front-row seats for the Great Migration, the world’s most incredible wildlife show…
Come to Lemala Ndutu Camp to experience the Serengeti and its Great Migration. We’re a mobile tented camp that re-locates twice a year to follow the animals as they move from north to south. That means you get front-row seats to the world’s greatest wildlife show, which sees over two million wildebeest, as well as zebras and gazelle, move between the Serengeti and Maasai Mara. Most of your time will be spent on game drives to spot the big five and track the herd movements.
Ndutu camp lies in the southern Serengeti, surrounded by its famous endless plains. We set up here between December and March, when the herds arrive to graze on the lush savannah. In February, the wildebeest calve and you can see millions of babies on the plains, it’s a magical experience. This draws a variety of predators and you’re likely to see some exciting chases. Between June and October, we move north to Mara camp, where we can watch the migrating herds cross the crocodile-infested Mara River.
Our camps are unfenced and open to the wild, so you’ll see all kinds of animals wandering past. I’ve seen everything from elephants to hyenas and giraffe while relaxing at camp. Hippos often come in the evenings to graze and you can hear the distant roar of lions while you’re sat around the campfire. Guests say one of their favourite things about Ndutu is being able to watch the wildlife from the veranda of their tents. They also love the amazing service from our team, which includes people from the Maasai and Kuria communities, who have a brilliant understanding of the local landscapes, culture and animals.
At Ndutu, our nine luxury safari tents are set up on the edge of a permanent marsh. The canvas tents are large with two queen-sized beds and an en-suite bathroom. Everything is powered by solar and we cause minimal damage to the environment – when we pack up camp, the area returns to its natural state. In the evenings, relax in our mess area which has leather sofas, chandeliers, a dining area and bar. We serve an à la carte menu and provide lunch and breakfast boxes for all-day game drives. One of the highlights of the day is enjoying sundowners around the campfire, waiting for the stars to come out.
Your journey will start with one of our UK team – someone like Gemma, who's travelled extensively in Tanzania. They’ll shape your ideas into the trip of a lifetime. But they won't do it on their own. They'll draw on the expertise of our contacts on the ground, connecting you to the people who'll make your holiday one you'll always remember - the rangers who'll ensure you'll spot the best wildlife, the village chiefs who'll give you a genuine insight into local life and the camp managers who can recommend the very best spot to enjoy your sundowner.
