Hoysala Village Resort: where time stands still

From the moment of arrival, you’re completely immersed in the local culture…

By K Raveendra Alva
Owner of Hoysala Village

We’re situated in the rolling farmlands and sunflower fields of Hassan’s rural territory. From the moment of arrival, you’ll find yourself completely immersed in the local culture. Wake up to locals singing in the morning and enjoy traditional dance performances at night. Lodgings have a village-like feel and are resplendent in traditional design, like the red-tiled roofs, the liberal use of polished teak wood and curtained four poster beds. We have also fitted copper bathtubs which feel quite regal.

A stay here offers wonderful respite alongside an energetic temple exploring itinerary. Though the vibe at the property is relaxed, everything is at your fingertips, cultural activities being to the fore in an area full of heritage. The UNESCO-awarded Hoysala temples of Belur and Halebidu are only a 40-minute country drive away, a huge draw for our guests. Otherwise, you could easily spend days here surrounded by nature and not even look at your watch.

It’s hard to describe how special it is here; you have to come and see for yourself. I think it’s the utter serenity and freedom you feel when going about your day. If you want to stretch your legs you can walk to the local village and meet the warm people. Bird watching is excellent particularly around the lily ponds, or for something completely different, you could take a bullock cart ride across the farmland. Post exploring, there’s a swimming pool shaded by the palms and a spa for Ayurvedic treatments. We’ve created little nooks like this elevated spot for yoga where you can practice at sunrise and sunset, and a treehouse tucked away in the foliage where you can have private candlelight dinners. One thing I must boast about is the climate – ideal exploring temperatures ranging from 20-25 degrees.

Since we are embedded in the land, we have taken on sustainable practises to preserve our home such as rainwater harvesting and we’re big on conserving energy. We have our own water purification unit and all our food is grown organically including the coffee beans that kickstart your mornings using milk from our own cows. After all, we have a responsibility to the land, and it makes for a wholesome experience.
