Encounter Onguma’s diverse wildlife on game drives with our experienced rangers. The reserve covers 34,000 hectares of Namibian landscape home to over 30 mammals and 300 bird species that roam freely. We have four of the African Big Five (excluding buffalo) here, as well as big cats and plains game such as giraffe, kudu, zebra and impala. We’re also lucky to have a healthy population of endangered black rhinos protected by our dedicated anti-poaching team. The team is funded by tourism, so when you stay with us, your money goes back into protecting these precious animals.

Although you can have amazing wildlife encounters around the waterholes at camp, our rangers know all the best spots to take you on safaris. Don’t miss our afternoon drive, which leaves about two hours before sunset as it cools down and animals become more active. As you bump across the plains you never know what you’ll come across – last night some guests witnessed a party of nine lions attacking a zebra. You’ll end up in a secluded bush spot, where you can enjoy drinks and snacks while watching the sun fall off the edge of the earth – when there are clouds, they change a beautiful shade of pink and purple.
