You can lie in bed with the canvas door open, watching wildlife mingle around the waterhole…
Onguma Tented Camp offers a true Out of Africa glamping experience. You’ll stay in one of our seven canvas tents, set in a U-shape around a spring-fed waterhole. The animals come here all the time, so you can lie in bed with the canvas door open, watching wildlife in its natural habitat. Mornings and afternoons are the busiest time when you can spot everything from kudus to elephants and giraffes.
Design-wise, there’s a very African feel to the camp, with stone, suede and linen textures. The colour palette is inspired by a photograph of an oryx on nearby Fisher’s Pan, so you can expect charcoals, creams and greens. Even though the camp is tented, it still feels glamourous; the bathrooms come with a tub and outdoor shower. You can enjoy the incredible sunsets from your deck and the sky is filled with twinkling stars on a clear evening.
We also have a rim-flow pool, which is great for relaxing between game drives, and a large deck where you can gather around the firepit for evening drinks. Meals are served in our dining area, where we offer an Afro-fusion menu with game meats and produce grown on our 500-acre vegetable farm staffed by villagers from the local Oshivelo community – we’re actually Namibia’s largest producer of carrots!
One of the highlights of Onguma is our location. We’re set on the eastern side of Etosha National Park, yet we have our own 34,000-hectare reserve home to over 30 mammal species. When you’re out on a drive, you might spot grazing beasts such as zebra and giraffe, big cat predators and over 300 species of birds. The camp is unfenced, so you can really get up close to the wildlife.
Guests love our ranger-led game drives and sundowners in the bush. If you’re lucky, you’ll spot one of the endangered black rhinos that live in the reserve and are fiercely protected by our anti-poaching team. One of the best places to photograph wildlife is at our Onkolo hide, where you can observe animals at eye level. I’d also recommend taking one of our guided walking safaris to learn about the environment and immerse yourself in nature.
