If you’re looking for an adventure that you can do together as a family, I really recommend Wild Horizon’s Canopy Tour. There’s a reason it’s our most popular activity. With two guides to help you, you glide in a group through the Zambezi gorge forest on a series of zip wires – nine of them altogether, and a cable bridge walkway – and the whole thing takes a couple of hours or a little bit longer.

Obviously, the main reason for doing it is that it’s good fun! But it’s also one of the activities where you have more time to enjoy the spectacular views of the gorge, the rapids on the Zambezi, the Victoria Falls Bridge, the spray from the waterfall… Plus you get to see the forest from every angle – above, below and in the middle of the canopy – so you might spot some of the birds that live there as well. Actually, when you’re sliding through the treetop it sometimes feels a little like being a bird, too.

I always enjoy doing the Canopy Tour, but my favourite part is slide number eight. At 85m, it’s the longest slide and also the highest, so the views from there are amazing.

Alfred & Reason Ncube

Adventure-loving Reason Ncube grew up in Hwange and went to school in Binga on the Zimbabwean shoreline of Lake Kariba. He joined Wild Horizons in 2007, where he is an instructor and guide for the company’s more heart-pumping Victoria Falls activities, including the Flying Fox, Gorge Swing, Zip Line and Canopy Tour. Mark Butcher is an eco-tourism professional with a passion for linking local communities directly to wildlife conservation. In the 80s, he was a ranger for the Zimbabwe Department of National Parks and Wildlife and later, the Provincial Wildlife Officer in the Matabeleland North Province adjacent to Hwange National Park. Mark is now the Managing Director of Imvelo Safari Lodges, a selection of properties that directly benefit disenfranchised communities around Hwange.
Tich Tandi

During more than three decades in the hospitality industry, Tich Tandi has been everything from a waiter to a tours coordinator in a five-star hotel. Originally from Rusape in the eastern highlands of Zimbabwe, he now works for Wild Horizons in Victoria Falls as part of the sales and marketing team, a role he thoroughly enjoys.
Jane Msamba

Deputy General Manager, Ilala Lodge Hotel

Born in Zimbabwe, Jane began working with Ilala Lodge Hotel as a senior cashier in 1995. She has worked her way through the ranks from Junior Tours Consultant to Tours Manager and this year took up the role of Deputy General Manager of the hotel. Happily married with three children, Jane has recently become a proud grandmother. She lives in Victoria Falls with her husband and the couple is passionate about wildlife.
