No visit to China would be complete without visiting the Great Wall and this section at Mutianyu is one of the most beautiful…
Surrounded by woodland and streams, escape the crowds and see for yourself just how remarkable this famous landmark is. This quieter section is the best place to really soak up the magnitude of the wall and take a moment to bathe in the stillness and tranquillity.
Restored in the early 1980s, the Great Wall at Mutianyu used to serve as the northern barrier defending the capital and imperial tombs in the Ming Dynasty. History and photography lovers will be in their element as we gently hike between the watchtowers admiring the elaborate brickwork and miles of panoramic views.
Once we’ve finished exploring it’s up to you how you want to get down. If your legs have had enough walking guests are welcome to take the cable car or if you’d like to try something a little different, the 10-minute toboggan slide down to the entrance is lots of fun- it’s impossible to get off without a smile on your face!
Your journey will start with one of our UK team – someone like Suzanne, who's travelled extensively in China. They’ll shape your ideas into the trip of a lifetime. But they won't do it alone. They'll draw on the expertise of our contacts on the ground, connecting you to the people who'll make your holiday one you'll always remember - the guides who can take you to The Great Wall’s quietest spots, the villagers who can show you how to create your own lucky clay cat and the cooks who can rustle you up breakfast pancakes, Shanghai-style.
