This 9-day itinerary will show you the best of Botswana. Explore three wildlife-rich regions that boast top-tier safari experiences. Travel round the country by small planes, staying in exquisite safari lodges in remote areas. Start in the Makgadikgadi region where you will explore the Nxai Pan salt flats and venture out on game drives to spot Africa’s fabled wildlife. Discover the Okavango Delta in a mokoro as your guide poles you through its myriad channels to discover hippos, crocodiles and more. Finally stay in a luxury lodge on the banks of the Chobe River and enjoy a boat cruise along the river watching elephants bathe up close.
Your suggested itinerary
Day 1 – 3 Makgadikgadi
After your arrival in Maun, a short flight will take you to your home for the next three nights, the spectacular and remote Leroo La Tau, located on the edge of the Makgadikgadi Pans. This is an excellent spot for a safari with wonderful game viewing on the banks of the seasonal Boteti River. A complimentary full day excursion to Nxai Pans is included, where you will be able to see its famous baobab trees and, if you are lucky, the zebra birthing season. Overnight at Leroo La Tau.
Day 4 – 5 Okavango Delta
Board a small plane and fly to the world-famous Okavango Delta. Upon arrival, a transfer will take you to Camp Okavango, a stunning lodge overlooking the flood plains and channels of the delta. In green season, when the waters in the delta are low the channels are more pronounced, allowing for exploration in traditional canoes, called mokoros. You will be poled through the bush – as if in a rural Venice – with the chance to see animals drawn to the receding waters to drink. Look out for hippos and crocodiles. You will spend two nights here, enjoying a combination of game drives and water based safaris. Overnight at Camp Okavango
Day 6 – 8 Chobe National Park
After your last morning safari activity from Camp Okavango, fly to Chobe National Park. Chobe Game Lodge, your base for the next two nights is located on the banks of the Chobe River. This luxury lodge is the only permanent lodge situated inside the national park giving you the best access to wildlife. Join the all-female “Chobe Angels” safari guides on daily game drives into the park to spot lions, leopards, giraffe and a plethora of Africa’s most famous inhabitants. Take to the river on an ecological solar-powered boat, to watch giant herds of elephants bathing, drinking and playing in the river. In the evenings, unwind under the stars with al fresco dining. Overnight at Chobe Game Lodge.
Day 9 Departure
After your final morning game drive you will be transferred to Kasane Airport to begin your journey home. However, if you wish to extend your holiday, it is approximately a 2-hour transfer to Victoria Falls.
